The Newbie

Memories

The lady from earlier opened the door and smiled at me. I smiled back.

"Hi, I'm Liz Morgan. I live next door. My mom and I wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood with these homemade cookies," I told her. I held the plate out for her to take but instead, she motioned for me to come in. I walked into the house and followed her to the kitchen. 

"Just set the cookies on the counter, please. Let me go see if Cameron is in his room," she said. Mrs. Dallas went up the stairs and disappeared from my sight. I just stood there and looked around. They had done a lot with the place. 

The old neighbors were nice people. They were parents and they had a girl named Sarah and a boy named Luke. The boy was five and the girl was eight. I used to babysit them and they were the most awesome kids ever. I would come over and play with them even if I wasn't babysitting them. We would play dress up and force Luke into princess dresses. Then I would put makeup on him and Sarah. Sarah would put a blanket around my shoulders and give me a foam sword. I would be the queen and they were my children.

"All hail Queen Liz of Loveripple kingdom," Sarah would say. I knew that was my cue to come out of the closet and go and sit in the special queen chair. Sarah would come up and sit on my right and Luke would sit on my left. Then the mom, her name was Lucy, and the dad, his name was Jason, came into the room and bowed before us. Lucy would bake us cookies and Jason would bring us hot chocolate. We would all sit down and eat our "feast".  After we were full, Sarah would go and get Rocky, the dog, and we would pretend that he was a ferocious dragon. Jason would wrestle with Rocky and then stab him with a foam sword. Rocky would fall onto the ground like he was dead. We would all applaud Jason and then he would come up to my "throne".

"I dub thee Sir Jason." I would say. Then I would put the tip of my sword on his left shoulder, his head, then his right shoulder.

"You may now rise, Sir Jason." I would tell him. He would stand up and Lucy would come forward. She knelt at my knees.

"Queen Liz, will you please make me a lady so that I may marry the love of my life?" she would ask me. I nodded, thinking it over. I stood up and took up my scepter. Then I would dubb Lucy.

"You may know rise as Lady Lucy." I would say. Then Lucy would run up to Jason and hug him.

"Oh, my love! We can finally be together," she would exclaim. Jason would smile real big and then they would kneel before me.

"Oh, lovely Queen Liz! Will you grant me a maiden of my choice to marry?" Jason would ask. I would nod, then I had a bunch of dolls and Lucy line up. Jason would look at the dolls and walk down the line. He would look like he was thinking about the one. Finally, he would stop in front of Lucy and look at me.

"May I please marry this one?" he would ask.

I would think it over and nod. He would have a smile on his face as large as China.

"I give you my blessing, Sir Jason. May your marriage be blissful and last forever."

Jason would come over and start kissing my hand. He would thank me over and over.
