-----------------------------------------
I study the man from across the room.

I finally have him.

His dark hair has fallen in front of his face while his head hangs to one side. It was definitely difficult getting him up here that's for sure. I didn't plan well when it came to the part of transporting him.

The IV I have him hooked up to with more of that same debilitating concoction hangs over to the side of the bed. My bed. A flicker of pleasure comes from that thought. Our family doctor was quite curious about why I called him there to hook it up, but the wad of cash I gave him should quell a bit of that curiosity. Because I didn't want the vampire to be totally comatose all the time, I've given him a very small dosage through his IV. He should wake up any moment now. I smile in anticipation.

Nate texted me earlier complaining about how I ditched him at the club. It wasn't like he was totally stranded. He definitely could've called an Uber.

"Lina."

I turn towards the weak but still melodic voice that is coming from the beautiful creature situated on my bed. He's more magnificent in the soft lights of my bedroom. His hooded gray eyes pierce into mine and a shiver goes up my spine.

I sit on my bed next to him, drinking in his delicious masculinity.

"Arius. You're finally awake." I smile pleasantly.

"It would seem so, Little Lina," He says after a moment's pause.

My long hair falls forward as I lean toward the vampire on my hands and knees. I cock my head to the side and study him intently. He's just the same as I remember him that fateful day of my brother's death.

"You know, I never got around to saying thank you. You saved my life. If you hadn't, I wouldn't have had the chance of meeting you like this today," I smirk at him.

Arius studies me in return. "And you have most definitely grown since then," He says in a rough but quiet voice.

I run a finger up and down his arm absentmindedly as I sit back on the bed beside him.

"You stayed away from me all this time. Why?" I ask curiously. His eyes have closed and his chest rises and falls at a faster rate. I notice all of this and revel in it.

Finally, he opens his eyes. He looks me up and down slowly as he answers.

"Because you were not yet ready. And neither was I. Once you became an adult it took every fiber of my being to stay away." His tone is quiet but even.

I inch closer to him.

"Am I ready now?" I whisper softly.

In an instant I'm straddling the vampire.

"Oops. Must have not given you enough," I grin.

"You really are trying to test my patience. In one instant you could've been dead. Does that not bother you?" He says darkly.

"Arius, if I were worried about death I would not have sought out a vampire," I laugh softly.

He pulls me in a tiny bit closer. placing a hand possessively onto my lower back.

"I'll ask you again, Lina. What do you plan on doing with me?" His tone is light now and somewhat jovial.

I smile broadly and wrap my arms around his neck. His dark brows raise in curiosity just as I see his pupils dilate.

"I'm going to make you mine."

I bring my lips to his and place a chaste kiss on them. His eyes flash in amusement.

"And how do you suppose you'll do that?"

I slowly disentangle myself from the vampire and get off the bed. Going over to where the ancient book resides, I pick it up and bring it to the bedside.

"I had to make a choice, Arius. I could merely hope that you would in fact be willing to stay by my side or I could make it happen. I chose the latter. The Book is very clear about how to do that. I took some of your blood while you slept and in return gave you some of mine. All that's left is this."

"Lina, no, what are you doing?" Arius struggles to move. I upped his dosage on the IV while I rested in his lap.

"As long as the dreadful son rises and there is breath in my lungs, this creature of darkness shall remain enthralled to me. Go forth and do as I bid for as long as it pleases me. Sanguine Arius."

Arius remains frozen in place. His face is one of shock and something else I can't quite place. He doesn't move a muscle until I've cut his wrist and mine and placed them together. I bring the knife that I had hidden in my pocket to my lips and lick up its shiny length.

He studies me intently. All the while his expression begins to change. He quickly grabs my wrist that is bleeding and with a pink tongue, laps up any blood that has dripped down my arm during the ceremony. I feel the wound start to close.

"Very good, Arius." I smile darkly at him. His gray eyes glint red as he looks at me while continuing to work on my wrist.

Finally he stops.

"So this is what being a thrall feels like," Arius says. "What's amusing to me is that you don't even know whom you just enthralled, my dear Lina."

I place a hand on the side of his perfectly sculpted face.

"And who are you?" I ask indulgently.

"Just the Sanguine heir who has been bested by a human. A very delicious human, but a human nonetheless." Arius chuckles to himself while running a hand through his hair.

"And what is the heir to a throne doing hanging around waiting on me?" I bring my hand down and place it in my lap.

"Your brother asked me to wait for you to mature and I had my own reasons among other things." His eyes are dark while staring into mine.

My eyes widen a bit but then I accept this news. My brother's body was never found.

"So my brother is alive." I say solemnly.

"If you want to call it that, yes." Arius laughs.

"Please tell me about my brother, Arius." I say quickly.

Arius seems to fight the notion of it at first but finally says something.

"Let's just say my mother took a liking to him. He is well taken care of." The vampire rolls his eyes slightly which is something I take note of.

"I want you to take me to see him." I say.

"Woah, Lina, wait just a minute. Humans don't go to my home. And if they do, it's not to visit." Arius furrows his brow and moves closer to me.

"I don't have to worry about that, Arius. You will be there to protect me. If I die, you die. That remains true until I release you." I get up and go to my dressers to get some clothes.

"Going back enthralled to a human will be a disgrace, Lina. You have made me mortal because of this decision. I am solely dependent upon you. I'm not even completely sure how you were able to do that in the first place. Humans don't have thralls. Not even a vampire should be able to enthrall someone as strong as me." Arius states in disbelief.

"Arius. Take me there." I glance over to him.

The vampire gets up and walks over to me, effectively disconnecting himself from the IV. Grasping my hand in his, he plants a gentle kiss on the top and then on the inner side of my wrist. I shiver in response.

"As you wish, Little Lina."
