"Hey do you know where your room room is? Or who your roommate is? And do you know where the dining halls are? I heard the Washington hall has the best food. Have you heard that too?" Maia said, bombarded me with questions as we walked towards the dorms on campus.

It's safe to say I don't actually know the girl; I had only met her a few hours prior. She had seemed nice & cool at first, but now she just won't stop talking. It's making me start to itch with annoyance.

"Do you ever stop saying stuff?" I said blatantly. Maia looked shocked for a split second before her face turned back into a bright smile.

"Well no, not really. I have ADHD you know. Apparently it's a common diagnoses for people our age because when our moms were pregnant with us, there were pesticides sprayed on fruits that caused ADHD. Isn't that wild?" I sighed inwardly & I began to tune her out. Talking to people really isn't my thing, especially people I hardly knew.

As we approached the dorm buildings, I caught sight of a group of guys out of the corner of my eye. Many of them were around the same height, which wasn't very tall, but they had broad shoulders & muscular builds. (Except it seemed like they always skipped leg day to me).

Two of the taller guys were putting each other in headlocks, trying to bring the other to the ground. I don't know if this was some sort of dominance thing or maybe to impress girls, but it surely just seemed awkward to do in public to me.

One guy really caught my attention though. He seemed to be a little shorter than some, but not the shortest. All I could tell from a distance was that he had dark blonde hair that was cut short & slightly tanned skin. He wasn't the most attractive guy there, but something about him just grabbed my attention.

I guess I was staring for a little too long because he looked straight at me & gave me a wink. Oh sh*t. I could feel the heat rising to my face & I quickly turned my head away, pretending as if I was just glancing for a few moments instead of intently staring.

"Helloooooo, did you hear anything I just said?" Maia caught my attention, breaking me out of my daze of self pity & embarrassment.

"Uhhh..." I stumbled as I tried to find words. I felt bad for not paying any attention to her, but I also don't like lying.

"I'm sorry, I just got distracted I guess." I grabbed my arm with my opposite hand & looked down at the ground. Why do I have to be so awkward.

Maia didn't seem bothered by my actions at all though. To my surprise, she was still smiling from ear to ear. "Well, I guess I'll see you later then right?"

I nodded my head & Maia walked off into one of the dorm buildings. Finally.

Sighing, I walk into the dorm building neighboring Maia's.

When I walked into my room, a thin red-headed girl was already sitting on the twin bed opposite of mine. Last week was move-in day for my university, which is where students bring their belongings & get everything together before classes started. I never met my roommate that day though, she had already completely moved in & left before I had gotten there.

"Hey there, I'm guessing you're my roommate?" I question, closing the door behind me & sitting on my bed.

The girl looked up from her phone & gave me a small smile. "Yeah that's me, I'm Makenzi."
