Arabella Whittle
The drive home was both exhilarating and nerve-wracking. In reality I don't really need my parent's permission to go to Hawaii with Darien because I am now my own adult and I can travel on my own, but that's not how my family works.
Even when Adrian went on a trip throughout the States it took mom two weeks of convincing and a lot of calls to family and friends before she let him go anywhere.
"Teleióti̱ta it's going to be okay. I will make sure I don't talk as much just like you said. Besides even if they say no now we can try to change their mind later."
"Darien you don't know them like I do. Maybe my dad will be okay with this but I don't know about my mom. Going on a two month long vacation with my boyfriend just screams sex, sex, sex! No matter what spin I put on it to make it seem like the most... non-sexual trip ever it's all she's going to think about." Darien nods at this but the smile still remains apparent on his face.
"Well teleióti̱ta there's only one way to figure this out isn't there?" He stops the car in our drive way and I feel like passing out. There's no way I'm going to be allowed to go on this trip. My mom is going to flip! It's going to be a disaster for sure.
A slight breeze hits my face and I look to my right to see Darien standing in my doorway with his hand extended.
"Come on teleióti̱ta now or never." Saying a quick prayer to the Almighty above I get out of the car and go to unlock the door to my house. At first it's silent and I think no one is home but then I hear the slow build of chatter coming from the living room. And to make things worse Adam's girlfriend is here too.
"Welcome home sweetie! How was bowling?" Mom asks me from the couch. Dad is sitting in the recliner next to her while Adam and the beautiful Spanish girl, whose name I should really learn, are sprawled out on the floor. Alec is leaning on the arm of the couch on his phone and Adrian seems to still be away on business. He sent me a text to let me know he'd be back for dinner.
It's sad to think that in only two more weeks my brothers will have officially moved out of here and into their own bachelor pad as they put it. It's going to seem so empty without them.
"Bowling was great mom. I've learned I suck at it but it was fun to play." Dad laughs at my joke and kicks his feet out under him reclining the chair completely back.
"All you need is a little more practice that's all." I smile and nod in return but I can feel the anxiety building back up and with the nudge Darien just gave me it's only getting worse.
"Yeah... so um mom, dad I want to ask you guys a question." They both stop watching the television and actually look at me this time. I can see in their eyes that they're externally and internally scanning to see if I'm still a virgin. Don't ask me how I know, I just know.
"What's on your mind kid?" Dad asks fixing his chair back into its upright position. I take a deep breath and blurt it all out.
"DarienaskedifIwouldcomewithhimtovisithisfamilyinHawaii." Stopping to breathe I can tell they have no idea of what I just said but Alec and Adam have an idea as they both get up to give us some privacy. The pretty Spanish girl smiles at me and follows Adam out as well.
"I'm sorry what did you say Arabella?" Mom asks moving to the edge of her seat. I gulp down the rock in my throat and move further into the room.
"I know you both know that Darien is from Hawaii and that he has family there. He was... no we were wondering if we could travel there together for the next two months. We'd stay with his grandparents the entire time."
