What happened next is hard to explain.
I thought I was dead. I had said my goodbyes, paid my dues. I was swallowed by the darkness, yet. I still opened my eyes.
I was in the forest. The sun shown through the branches, illuminating off the leaves. Its warmth radiated onto me. I could hear the birds sing along with the creek trickling off in the distance.
I lifted my leg foward to take a step, to venture into my realm of eternity but I was sucked back. The forest became smaller and smaller in the distance as I was pulled away by an unknown force. Suddenly, it was dark again. The birds and the creek were gone, a unpleasent constant beeping filling their place. There was muffled talking off somewhere in the distance, I couldn't make out the words.
I lifted my heavy eyelids to a blindingly white room. Blinking a few times, I was finally able to see my surroundings.
It was easily recognizable, a painfully pale hospital room. A few chairs scattered were scattered about along with a dresser, most likely from the seventies, tucked back in the corner. A glass vase with fresh tulips sat upon in. Their fragrance filled the room with a freshness that almost turned my stomach. Still, they were pretty to look at.
The door to my right suddenly clicked, nearly giving me a heart attack, and a man in a white coat walked in. He was flipping through the papers on his clip board when he looked up at me and smiled.
"Good, your awake. You've been out for a few days, 4 to be exact. But, suffering the trama that you did, it's perfectly normal." The blonde doctor said as he set down his clipboard.
"Cool." I answered plainly, my voice cracked a little. He laughed at this and leaned over to flash a light in my eyes.
"How are you feeling? Any pain or nausea?" He asked me whilst blinding me.
"Besides my eyes?"
He laughed again, which I found very beautiful to hear, and switched off the light. The black soon turned to white and faded away as I could see the blonde, pale doctor once again. He was scratching away on his clipboard.
"What's your name?" My curiosity asked.
"Dr. Carlisle Cullen, but Carlisle works just fine." He glanced up at me again and smiled.
Pretty name. I looked around the room again, scanning over everything and stopping at my body which lay under a pastel blue blanket.
"How bad is the damage?" I asked, not moving my eyes away from my bed.
"When they brought you in, you had lost at least have your blood. Some abdominal muscle was, luckly, only torn. Your left lung was punctured and 3 of your ribs were, what I can best describe as slashed. They were barely holding together." He paused, "Bethany, do you remember what happened?" His tone of voice turned serious.
Of course I do. I ran through the incident in my head, lingering on Seth's snarling face as he came towards me. His monsterous paws with dangerously sharp claws sticking out of them, outstretched as he plunged on top of me. My left side started to ache at the thought.
I defiantly could not tell him this.
"No, not really." I lied. "I just remember lying on the ground and Seth standing over me." I directed my gaze over to him again. His attention was now on me as he analyzed my reaction with a simpathetic look on his face.
"Bethany. I don't really know how to go about this but, your father was found dead when the paramedics arrived. And later on, your mother as well was, found dead in the house. She had called the ambulance for you before she.... she took her own life."
My side pained in responce. A lump in my throat formed and I tried to swallow it down as a warm tear slid down my face. God damn you mom, god damn you... More tears fell, as I could not control the feeling for the person who had stood by all these years while I was abused. The same person who had brought me into this world.
"I'm deeply sorry for your loss. If it would comfort you any, I could bring in Seth for you. He's been waiting all this time." Carlisle quietly asked. I nodded. Sniffing, I brought my dead arm up to wipe away the emotions that streaked my face.
Carlisle swiftly left the room without any noise, promptly leaving the thick wooden door cracked slightly open. Allowing the noise from the outside to spill in.
I gently and slowly pushed myself up from the bed, whincing when the needle in my arm tugged at my skin. The blood rushed to my head as I sat up and my side spasmed with the movement but soon subsided.
What am I going to do? I'm just 16, fucking 16. No mom or.... dad. My body ached at the thought of the bastard. I have nothing left to me and no one to care for my exsistence exept, Seth.
I was shaken from my thoughts when the wooden door groaned. Turning my head, I was taken back to see Seth in the doorway. His eyes were bloodshot and dark circles were clearly visable on his face. Then, I saw the young boy I fell in love with underneath.
The lump in my throat formed once again and my eyes began to water as the memories and feelings came back to me. Seth was already crying though a smile played at his lips. He took a few steps before stumbling and collapsing in my lap. He wept into the blanket, gripping at it tightly. I have to say that I was taken back by this, for I had never had anyone care about me so deeply like this.
The tears started to slowly fall as I was filled with this new happiness. I layed my good hand on his head and gently caressed him.
"... I thought I lost you....I thought I lost you...." He cried between each sob. "I'm so sorry Beth.... I'm so sorry."
"Shhh, honey. I'm still here. I'm still here with you." I reasured him, putting my bad hand on top of his clenched fist. The tension in his grip loosened, letting go of the hospital blanket and lifting his head to look at me. We stared into each other for a few fleeting moments, before he leaned in and pressed his sweetly warm lips to mine.
My heart seemed to sing a melody, a deeply passionate melody, vanquishing the pain away . I kissed him back tenderly, forcing these emotions to show through. He responded just as lively with a sense of excitement. I felt it too, unknowning why when I realised the certain truth.
We were undoubtably sharing our first kiss.
