My name is Mathew, I was a normal kid living in a normal city, Sydney. I was going to a normal school, having normal friends and doing normal things. But a week before my seventeenth, two men came to my house. My parents didn't act surprised when they came, they knew that they were going to come. I know how it feels to keep a big secret from someone I love, coming out as gay was hard for me but not as hard as this. They told me that when I turned Seventeen my powers would grow and start to awaken and only they could help me reach my full potential.

I didn't believe them, it was impossible and I told them to leave me alone. As I tried to walk out of the living room door, one of the two strange men stopped me. The light rays shining on his face from the two windows illuminating the room. He held out his hand and a small flame appeared burning brightly. It was a white burning blaze. I felt the heat waves from where I was standing opposite him. It started to change colour and grew then shrank in his hand.

As he closed his hand it disappeared and I knew they were not lying to me. So, that is how I ended up here, here being...

'Merlin's School for the Magical and Powerful'

A whole world away from my home.

I read a little bit of the guide book before coming to the school. First there are five main elements among the people in the school that someone can control;

Earth: For the body. Strong, needed to shape everything.

Water: For the blood. Flowing, the life forces road.

Fire: For the heart. Brave, dangerous but beautiful.

Air: For the voice. Howling, everywhere it is needed it may go.

Spirit: For the life. Knowing, making things new again.

But I still do not know where I belong, what powers I have. It states in the book that when you turn seventeen that your power will start to leak out and only the school can break through the barriers. But nothing has happened.

There was no shaking of the earth, no splashing of water, nothing set of fire, no swirling of air and spirits did not come to speak to me. Maybe I don't have any powers after all, but how I am here, why am I here.

"Excuse me,"

"Oh, I am sorry. I got lost in my own thoughts" I exclaimed as I turn around to face a tall dark haired man, he looked about my age maybe a little bit older.

"That's okay," he spoke with an American accent "my name is Jake, I am a level two here at the school"

"Hi, I am Mathew but everyone calls me Matt for short and I am new here," I had a slightly noticeable Australian accent but you had to listen carefully to hear it.

"Okay, let me show you to the mess hall. That's where all the level zeros are supposed to meet"

He stepped aside and led me into a court yard looking building. In the middle was a giant tree with branching vines. Bigger than the ones we had back home. "This is the centre of the school and where Merlin's tomb is lying," Jake said as we stand side by side staring at the huge tree.

As I looked at the base of the tree I could see pillars surrounding it in a perfect pentagon. "What are they for?"

"Oh, I guess you didn't read all of the guide book then, did you? There are five pillars, each one holding a different element." As he told me I could now see things floating just above them. I could see what I think to be a ball of water, some rocks for earth and a flame for fire. The other two elements were hiding behind the huge tree.

"The legend goes on that Merlin could control all of the elements, including one of his own that no one else around him had. He was one of the most powerful people on this earth and built this school to teach others how to use and control their powers"
