Elite Thunder:

Prologue:

Sophie’s heart was pumping faster than her tired and confused brain could process. She took the corner in her stride. She knew she was ahead by at least a lap.

Her brakes weren’t working! They completely failed on her. The finish line was coming up in less than one hundred yards and she started to panic. Shall I spin it or will that lose me the victory? She puzzled her overworked brain with this thought.

She decided to go for it. All of those James Bond movies and episodes of Top Gear and Fifth Gear she watched were flooding back. She remembered one episode where they did a J-Turn.

Without thought, Sophie’s hand reached out and clutched the handbrake, pulled and immediately yanked the steering wheel sharply to the left.

Her go-kart spun around uncontrollably in a spectacular cloud of smoke and burnt pieces of rubber spurted out of the rim in all directions. One even hit the commentary booth!

Michael was impressed as Sophie regained control of her kart and staggered across the start/finish line. He had been unable to take his eyes off her all race, even though his own son, Johnny, was in second place.

Sophie removed her helmet and gloves and jumped out of her suit to receive her trophy! She was delighted, as this had been her first in the senior class and she had won it! Winning the trophy felt amazing; the best Sophie had felt for a long time.

Sophie’s younger brother had recently died of brain cancer. She was the only one who had time to care for him. She cared for him right from when he was diagnosed, to the day he died. She had to do everything from getting him dressed in the mornings to feeding him and allowing him to watch tv. It was all a lot of effort, but after all, Thomas was her brother.

Chapter 1:

“Where’s she gone?” Debbie demanded!

“Well, how do you expect me to know if you don’t even know yourself? You’re the one that normally knows things before I do anyway!” an annoyed Robert tossed back.

“Well, normally, I do. She was here when she had her tea last night. It was her favourite, boiled eggs with soldiers. You know she still likes it from when she was young!” quarrelled Debbie.

The parents were arguing over their daughter’s, Sophie’s, mysterious disappearance. Sophie was a 16 year old girl and she was very popular at her high school: Fairview High.

“She’s probably just gone out with one of her friends. You know, to the shops or something” suggested Robert.

“What, at this time? Oh, the phone’s ringing, again!” It was the third time the phone had rang in that hour. It was also the reason that Robert and Debbie hadn’t had any sleep that night!

“Hello.”

“Help, where’s Sophie?”

“I don’t know, that’s exactly the question that I was going to ask you…”

Everybody was confused as to where on earth Sophie could be at two o’clock in the morning. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. “Aaarrrrrggghhhh! Will I ever get any sleep tonight?” screamed an angered Robert. He sounded a bit like a pirate when doing so!

The police saw a shocked pair of parents when they answered the door to them. The police officers went by the names of PC Steve Jones and PCSO Lesley Wood.

The parents were questioned about suspicious activity in the local area; at the same time Rob and Debbie quizzed the two police officers on the daughter’s location.
