ALTHEA'S POV
I stand on the ledge of the bell tower of my high school, the wind gently whipping my hair. I see the people down there stopping and getting their phones out I hear their pleas, I hear them scream.
I look down at the pavement below and the world tilts, I close my eyes enjoying the way the air feels, everything seems to be spinning. I open my eyes expecting this to be a dream, but the ground is still there hard and permanent.
"This is it" I whispered, and prepared to jump. "ALTHEAA NOOOO" I hear Aiden's voice yell but I ignore him. Time slowed down when I was falling. The world rushed by and in the seconds it took me to reach the ground I knew that the pain was worth it.
Dying I give my last smile to the world that has been so unkind.
AIDEN'S POV
She had jumped, right before my eyes. She was gone now. Gone. The hospital declared her dead the moment she was brought in. And today was Saturday, the day of her funeral.
The sun shone brightly and the colour of the spring day under its glare was offensively cheerful. It was as if they conspired to show me how the world would go on without her. It shouldn't. Everything should be as gray and foggy as my emotions, it should be cold and damp with silent air. But the birds still sang and the flowers still bloomed. I was struggling to hold back the grief, I feel bruised inside and numb. Walking to the mahogany coffin, I say my goodbyes. But she is already gone. Words from the minister, speeches at the service bring a fresh onslaught of misery. The whole town is here. But none of them knew much about Althea Sullivan. She was a mystery. She spoke to nobody and kept to herself.
After the funeral, I come back home rush up to the attic to look for a small wooden box. After searching for hours I finally find hidden in an old trunk. The box is a time capsule that we had made when we were ten it had a few photos, a bracelet and some other stuff in it. I clasp my favourite photograph of her we were twelve then. She was laughing and her face was covered with ice cream. We had raided her brother's ice cream collection and had a food fight. Her eyes were shining and her smile was merry. That was the last time I had seen her so happy and carefree.
Everything changed a week after that, Althea started pushing everybody away. She didn't talk to anybody. She locked herself in her room and refused to come out. Soon, I lost my best friend. She pretended that I never existed and it hurt. But I got over it.
Her memory still haunted me. Every single thing reminds me of her, nutella, cheesy love songs, cooking shows, her fascination with socks. It was driving me insane.
A week had passed since she died, I visit her grave and I tell her that I miss her and lay pink roses on her tomb.
As I get up to leave my head starts aching it feels like someone has hammered nails in them. Pain takes over my whole body and I fall to the ground before the whole world turns black.
