"Please come out and play!" They ask once again.
"You know I can't, I have to study for this test," I reply with the most familiar frown spread across my pale face.

They fly away like every other day. The same way, the same distance, the same birds.
I plant my cautiously old earbuds back into my ears and continue on.

Music is everything to me. 'Me' being Danielle. The most basic name for the most elaborate person. Nothing about me is basic. Well except for my name that is. My style, my scrawny body, my hair, my eyes, and most importantly, my interests.
Unlike the normal 16-year-old girl who likes clothes, shopping and boys; I like animals, cleaning, and music. Instead of going to the beach and getting a tan, I like sitting at my bay window and listening to music.

"Elle!" I hear a familiar voice call to me, using my most hated nickname. He knows it too, that why he uses it. My annoying older brother.

"What!" I shouted back using as much attitude I could. I could just picture my brother roll his eyes and then snicker as my mom tells me to stop having an attitude. But it is the only thing I seem to be good at. That and being incredibly obsessed with "nerd stuff"

See, my whole family is made of jocks, popular kids, and annoying prep girls. Even my great-grandfather who I cherish so much was a jock "back in the day" as he says. Granpa Joe is everything to me, my light, my rock. I talk to him about everything: test grades, mean kids at school, and even what to wear to dances. Not that I like going, my parents make me. They expect me to grow up just like them; popular and pretty. They all believe that, except my brother. Brothers are supposed to protect and provide for their little sisters, but not mine.

"Seriously, stop wasting my time," I bicker as I stop down the stairs, "What do you want?"
"Grandpa is on the phone," he said. I smiled my usual smile whenever he is brought up and hopped down the 3 steps I missed, finally perking up.
"Grandpa Joe!!" I cheer
"Hey scour, hows my favorite granddaughter been these days."
"I'm your only granddaughter, pop," I said rolling my eyes playfully.
"Oh that's right!" He exclaims like he always does when we start a conversation.
"How would you feel about comin' up to your ol' pops countryside for a while?" He asked.
Right away I knew what my answer was but he pursued on.
"I think I'd be nice for you to come up and get away from that pesky family for a lil' times."
"Pop, i think that'd be just dandy," i laughed in his southern accent. Even though I grew up in the most urban area you could think of, anyone could tell i liked the country way better. The breeze whistling through the trees when the scolding sun wasn't pouring down on you was amazing. The perfect mixture of warm and breeze was enough to make a person fall in a trance. When my family visited every summer I would beg to stay but my dad always said no and carried me out of the old wood house.
"Well of course it would," he laughed, "you think you could take a week off school?"
"Pop up I already know the answer to that!" I said
"We i figured I'd ask," he laughed. Pop knew me better than anyone I could think of. He knew what I was going to say even before I said it. When I tried to explain something to him that I didn't quite understand, he would let me ramble for a while but eventually help me out. He knew me which meant I could never keep something for me. He could see right through me. Even when I think I've fooled him, he comes back from his confused look and tells me he knew the whole time.
"I have to go Pop, dinners ready. I'll talk to mom and dad about this after," I started, "can I call ya later?" I asked
"Of course, scout, i love you"
"Love you too, pop"
I set the phone down on its stand with a pep in my step and trotted to the kitchen.
"Hey mommy dearest," I awed and held onto my moms arm like a child.
"What do you want Dani" she laughed
I smiled and started.
