Locked (Artemis x Kid Flash) Young Justice Fan Fiction Part 1

It was a muggy summer day at Happy Harbor. The heat made everyone feel miserable and angry. Even Mount Justice couldn't be any less quiet and boring than it was. The base normally had air conditioning, but Wally somehow broke the air conditioner. Everyone was sitting in the living room area, using their hands as fans. Artemis was trying to pretend that everything was fine and that nothing was wrong. She could be a good liar on occasion, but in the case of the hot weather, everyone could tell that Artemis was just as hot as they were. There was sweat dripping down off of her forehead, and her eyes were only half open. She glared at the red-haired boy sitting across from her. The speedster noticed her staring and smirked. 

"Checking me out Arty?" Wally asked with a snicker. Artemis blushed and continued to glare.

"No! I'm glaring at you because it's your fault that the air conditioner's broken!" Artemis exclaimed angrily. Wally scrunched his eyebrows at her.

"Was not! I tripped on YOUR bow Arty! I can't help that you made me spill my soda on the air conditioner!" Wally yelled while pointing at her bow. 

"I left it there because I was planning on giving it a thorough cleaning!" she shouted back. The other Young Justice members were awkwardly watching the pair argue. Kaldur even rolled his eyes.

"So then you admit that it's YOUR fault?!" Wally asked in a demanding tone of voice. She scoffed at his statement.

"No i don't! You shouldn't have been running around the base with soda in your hand in the first place Baywatch!" She yelled even louder.

"Well YOU shouldn't leave your bow laying around Arty!" Wally barked back. Artemis glared.

"Stop calling me Arty!" She shouted.

"Well then stop calling me Baywatch!" He yelled back. The two realized that they were at an impasse.

"Oh my god! Will you two kiss and make up already?!" Robin interjected. Wally and Artemis both blushed and looked at Robin shocked. Wally's shocked expression soon turned to one of arrogance.

"Ha! Like I'd ever kiss THAT thing." He said motioning towards Artemis. She was about to interject, but had second thought. She folded her arms and glared.

"Mmmppphhh. I second that... Baywatch.  She said with a grin. Before the argument could continue, Batman appeared on the large screen behind them. He looks menacing as ever.

"Team. I have a mission for you. Vandal Savage has returned once again, and we need you to steal an artifact from his mansion in Boston. It's called an Starker Emerald. It has the power to prolong life. With it, Vandal Savage will be invincible and will no longer have to kill Hawkgirl and Hawkman to stay immortal." Batman said calmly while showing off pictures of the mansion and printing out the address. The Young Justice members groaned. They weren't in the mood for a mission. Most of them had gotten headaches from the heat. Kaldur sat up in his seat.

"With all due respect sir. The majority of us are exhausted and shouldn't be tasked with such an important mission while in the condition we're in." Kaldur said calmly and respectfully as he always did. Batman nodded.

"I can tell. That's why I only want TWO of you to go on this mission. I want Artemis and Kid Flash to work together." He said softly while squinting in the pair's direction. Wally gawked at the screen and looked at Artemis in anger.

"W-w-why Bats? Why HER?" Wally whined. 

"Because we've noticed that you two argue a lot, and you need to learn to work better as a team. An important assignment like this should help you two get on the same page. Watch Tower out." Batman said before his face vanished from the screen. Wally and Artemis glared at each other. Artemis got up and retrieved her bow from the ground.

"Well then. Looks like we have an emerald to find Baywatch." she said with a forced laugh.
