Ethan dragged the both of us back to our house, from time to time looking back into the deserted horizon. He didnt relax until we reached our doorsteps.

"Thank goodness," He said shakily. He was trembling, something the Ethan i knew had never done. "If you could avoid telling Mother," he said, nodding at us.

I was just fighting with Ethan for the chicken when the door burst open. "Lew!! What have you done?!"

I looked up innocently at Father and he shook me violently. His grip was painful but i held back my cries.

"Mathew!" Mother gasped.

Father continued to shake me until Mother shrieked at him to stop.

"Stop, Mathew! What are you doing?!" she shrieked.

Father hates being shrieked at, so he shrieked right back at Mother. Mother and Father shrieked and shrieked to no end, until it was too much for Ethan.

"STOP!" He shrieked.

Black sparks flew from his fingertips and the house plunged into darkness and silence as Mother and Father stopped arguing.

Racheal burst into tears and Mother hugged the three of us together, making sure everyone was fine. "I'm so sorry..I didnt mean to cause a black-out,"Ethan said miserably.

Father shook his head, the tears on his face visible in the dim moonlight."It doesnt matter," He said and nodded at Mother.

She quickly grabbed a backpack and started dumping almost everything in her sight; food, water, clothes etc. "Faster," Father urged," He might be here anytime soon."

He...?

As if on cue, someone knocked on the door.

"Open up in the name of the DarkCore General!"

Everyone froze and stared fearfully at the door.

General..? Why would HE be at our door? Was it about the village boy...? My blood ran cold as the General knocked a second time.

Mother shuddered, quickly zipoed the backpack and threw it at Ethan's face.

Without a word, Father strode over to the coffee table. Without much effort he shifted the table away and threw aside the rug underneath.

I widened my eyes at the hidden trapdoor, really confused now.

"Racheal, you first." Father said, beckoning her to the open trapdoor. Racheal allowed herself to be lowered down without a word, although her eyes where shooting a million questions at Father.

"Ethan," Mother whispered anxiously. As usual, Ethan was defiant and looked ready to explode. "Please," Mother begged. He glanced worriedly at them and slipped down into the hole. Father turned to me, not needing a single word.

I shook my head. "What of you?" I asked

.

"We ll buy you time, Lew. Please hurry!" Mother glanced at the door worriedly. They, whoever they were, were hacking off our wooden door. Anger exploded in me.

"No," Father said sternly when he understood the look i had on my face.

Suddenly the door gave way and the DarkCore General and his platoon stumbled into the house. Father and Mother swooped right in to shield me from their eyes and Mother whispered to me softly,"Go, darling."

I took a deep breath, whispered something only for her ears to hear "i love you" and slipped into the darkness of the trapdoor.

Father kicked the door close and i was left in the mercy of darkness.
