Chapter Three

I have to blink when I wake up, the white lights around me blinding. Groaning, I manage to look up and see the faces of about twenty people around me. Immediately I'm worried whenever all the family gets together it's usually for something bad.

"Did something happen? Oh goshness is someone hurt, and here I've been sleeping. Goodness I'm sorry!" I apologize as I try to get myself out of the cot that I feel as if I'm strapped into.

"Oh honey, your awake!" Mom shouts as she rushes towards me.

"I'm sorry I don't understand," I ask still worried and notice that all the family was here, even the two nice boys we met at the mall.

"Honey the doctor says you have a concussion, I guess your tumble yesterday was worse than we thought." My dad chimes in, no wonder that one hurt more than usual. Then a thought comes to mind, where was the one family member that was missing. Even the dogs where hear even though you could clearly see the no pets outside.

"Where is Skye?" I ask. Immediately looks of worry and anger flash over everyone's faces.

"Well actually-" my mom is cut off when the doctor comes in. He wears a sad expression, like he has bad news and it only makes my parents morbid faces worse. He beckons them out of the room and they talk in hushed tones. When it's clear I won't be able to hear them, I turn to the people staring at me with perplexed faces.

Bear jumps up onto the bed I sit on and barks along with a sort beeping noise that repeatedly sounds from my right. I scratch him behind the ear and look back to the people. Jason holds Sam and glares unwavering at Charlie and the other boy we met at the mall. Sienna squirms in Blaise's arms who looks extremely uncomfortable, holding her from up her armpits.

I wave her forward, and Blaise gently sets Sienna in my arms. "How are you doing Sinnie?" I coo pulling her in a hug.

"Winnie has a booboo?" She asks pressing a little hand to my cheek.

I shake my head at her which causes me to wince. "Nope, sissy's okay. Nothing to worry about," I reassure.

"You don't look okay," Collin says stepping toward me. He gestures at my face, "You look like you got ran over by a donut truck." Yum donuts.

"I'm okay," I repeat but he hugs me anyways, without hesitating I rap him in my arms. Soon Amy and Jason join in taking Sam with them. Not a moment passes before Ariel, Blaise, Lola, and Troubles join in.

I end up laughing which comes to an immediate stop when my head starts to throb. I mutter an 'ow' and Jason makes everyone back up.

"Winter are you sure your okay?" Jason asks looking truly worried. Although I didn't want him to worry, my temples felt like someone was banging a hammer against them.  I almost always have a headache but this is the first time it ever hurts.

I'm about to answer when the doctor walks back in.

"What's up doc?" I ask, I've always wanted to use that line.

"Actually I need to talk to you about that. But first, everyone who is not family needs to leave." The moment the doctor stops talking both Charlie and the nameless mysterious boy leave. The doctor waits for more to leave, and too his astonishment they don't. "Okay, just he guardians stay, everyone else needs to wait outside."

"Can't Beary stay with us?" I ask scratching behind his ear.

"Dogs aren't supposed to be in here," He pauses before continuing. "But I guess one wouldn't hurt." Jason takes both Lola and Troubles.
