You grew up in a large family. You had many siblings and cousins, and your days were filled with laughter, protected by the older children and your loving parents.
You never knew much hatred or anger during your childhood. You were happy.
And one day, you made another friend. Your father had taken you to a trip to another village, and there you met a young boy named Gaara. A boy whose eyes were so lonely that you simply couldn't walk past him.
You didn't know any of the stories the other kids told about him. You just saw his sad, lonely eyes and talked to him.
And you were greatly rewarded for your kindness.
Gaara gave you all the love he had. He spend every moment by your side, talked to you about all his thoughts and ideas. And he held your hand, mumbling about how, one day, he'd ask you to marry him for sure.
He was adorable. One of the best friends you ever made. It was all good, until you told your father about him.
Withing two days, you had to leave. And not only that. Your father hadn't let you leave the room, no matter how much you cried and pleaded, telling him how sad Gaara would be if you didn't come to see him every day. You had promised him you'd stay with him forever. So how could your father prohibit you from seeing him?
You cried your eyes out, but someone your age and size, what could you do against your father?
So you went back home, without so much as a chance to say goodbye to Gaara.
Now, Gaara waited for you for those two days. He waited in your favourite spot, he wandered around town, he went everywhere to try and find you.
He didn't want to believe you had abandoned him. The pain of that would be too great. He loved you, he was sure of it. And he couldn't stand the thought that perhaps, he had let another liar into his heart.
No, you weren't like that. Someone must have taken you away from him. And by what you had told him, it could only be your father.
After two days of waiting for you, he was sure you had already been dragged out of the village. But Gaara would not have it.
As quickly as his legs could carry him, he ran to the main gate, and rushed toward the guards.
"Who left the village lately?! Tell me!"The way home seemed longer than your journey to this new, strange village. You already missed it, the warmth and the sun shining.
And you missed Gaara. More than anything else. Older cousins had often talked about a broken heart. You were sure that's what it felt like. He was your best friend! When would you ever see him again? Once you were both grown ups? That was too long! You were grumpy and quiet, and fighting down your tears. It was just so unfair!
Your father didn't say much about him. His eyes were wide, and he almost looked scared, so you didn't dare to press too hard. Maybe there was something dangerous back at the village? But that meant Gaara was in danger, too!Panic began to fill you. But there wasn't any time for you to react. The moment you wanted to open your mouth to beg your father to turn around you heard a scream from behind you. Your group stopped walking, your father's hand squeezing yours tightly. When you turned, there were no guards behind you. There had been three loyal men behind you and your father. Where had they gone? Did one of the monsters your father was so scared of get them?
But then your heard a voice and all worries fell from you.
"Give (Y/N) back to me!" Gaara said, stepping forward. His eyes were cold and fixed on your father, but you weren't worried. Gaara was here to protect you! Never would you imagine any ill intend from Gaara.
"Get away from my daughter!" Your father hissed. You gasped.
"Don't yell at him!"
"Let. Her. Go." Gaara repeated, unfazed by what was said. You couldn't understand why your father trembled beside you. It was just Gaara!
"You'll get her over my dead body, you monster!"
A dark chuckle left Gaara's lips. His eyes narrowed.
"Fine." He said.
"Gaara, let's just go back..." You begged, just wanting to be with him and to finally play together again without any worries.
But Gaara ignored you. He raised his hand, pointing at your father. You were confused, until you saw the sand fly toward him.
What fascinated you, turned your father pale. He picked you up and ran as fast as he could. Any direction, just away from that boy!You were so confused. What was happening? What was it with that sand? You knew it was just Gaara controlling it - he had shown you his powers in secret before - so your father had nothing to fear, did he? It was just.... Gaara.
But your hopes were crushed when the sand wrapped around your father's ankle, then around his throat, pulling him back. He held you close to shield you from the fall, but you heard something crack underneath you when you landed on your father's chest.
Then, you were pulled away. Sand was gently wrapped around you, almost as if it were hugging you. But still, you were ripped from your father's arm, and it startled you. Your father's face was covered in sand, and he helplessly reached his hands out for you, screaming at the top of his lungs.
Then, another crack. Louder this time.
Your father went limb.
"Finally.", you heard Gaara sigh, "Now he can't take you away again, (Y/N)."
