"We need to get the hell out of the street. These things are tearing people apart left and right!" Jack said, looking around frantically.
I looked and saw a police car coming our way, it's sirens blaring loudly. We all waved our hands in the air to maybe see of we could get the cop to stop and help us out, but he didn't slow.
After I looked close for a second, I saw that the drivers seat was empty. "Sarah, Deon, get out of the way!" I yelled out, but it looked to be too late.
The car plowed into both of them, pinning them against the wall of the building behind us.
The raging monsters whipped their heads around, most likely attracted by the sound of the crash. One of them dropped the half of a person he had in each hand, and their sights were now set on all of us.
They began to slowly walk towards us, and again I felt frozen in fear. Then I heard Sarah scream out behind us, still pinned by the car. The Ragers' eyes immediately shifted to her, and they ran past us to her.
They slammed her head into the hood of the police car, and tore her apart like she was made of paper.
Jason tapped my shoulder, and gestured towards the police station about three buildings down. We all sprinted for it, causing the Ragers to turn our way again.
We reached the police station quickly, and just as I was about to step inside the door, I heard an ear piercing scream.
I turned around to see Meredith pinned down by a Rager. Thinking quick, I said "Hey shithead, come and get me!"
The Rager was quick back to its feet, and was holding me by my throat in a second's time.
But at that moment, something strange happened. The Rager dropped me, and held his head as he let out a terrifyingly human scream.
The door to the police station behind us swung open, and a guy came out with something in his mouth. "All of you, hurry and get inside."
I felt someone grab my shoulders and start to pull me inside, before the door slammed shut after us.
"What are those things?!" I heard Jason ask the man who saved us with a bit of force.
"Buffs."
Sounds better than Rages.
"They look like regular people. What's going on with them?" I asked through a bit of pain.
"They're infected with an extremely wild disease. It flips switches in the brain. It causes severe aggression, drastically increased strength and the ability to regenerate themselves."
I thought back quickly to the boy in the hallway that the man shot. How he got back up, and his face looked to be knitting itself together. The way he broke that gun in half with no problem.
Even the way he kicked down that door to the classroom.
We are dealing with some serious shit.
"What was that thing you had in your mouth?" I asked him.
"A dog whistle. A little crude, I know. But with senses like theirs, it's torture."
"Well, how do we kill them? And how do you know so much about these things?" I asked him, suspicion creeping into my voice.
He sighed, and said "You don't kill them. You manage to survive. And I was the doctor leading this shitshow of a project."
I looked at him stunned, trying to think of what I could really say.
"What the Hell were you thinking?!" I yelled out at him, standing up finally.
"We hoped that we could create a way to evolve humans as we know them. Our first test subject was a boy you went to school with, Riley Dixon."
My thoughts faded back to Riley pleading with the shotgun pointed at him.
"He showed no signs of change" the doctor continued, "but one of the doctors felt it was morally wrong. Which, I could agree with a bit."
"Hank felt that the only way to stop the spread was to kill Riley, so he did. Or well, he tried."
Claire snickered a little at the dripping sarcasm in the doctors voice, and his matter of fact attitude, before she was elbowed by Meredith.
The doctor picked the lock on the gun cage, and pulled out a pistol. "Do you know how to use that thing" the doctor asked.
I cocked the gun, and said "Let's shoot some shit and find out."
Boom! That was Chapter 2, Ladies and Gentlemen. I wrote this to be more of an explanatory chapter to let everyone know what is going on fully. So let me know what you thought, leave a vote or comment, and I'll see you in the next chapter! Adios everyone!
