"Persephone! Wake up! You can't be late for school on your first day!"
I've been homeschooled my whole life. Today's my first day at a public school. I chose to go to the University of Nevada, Reno. Their psychology program is really good and their band is unbelievable. I've played clarinet and piano since I was 5 and I'm very excited to play in a band instead of solo.
"I'm up mom... I'm up."
I slowly stretched out of bed and walked into my bathroom. The thing I love about having short hair is I just have to brush it and go. I used to straighten my hair or curl it and the heat fried my hair. After I brushed my hair and put on mascara I walked into my closet and looked for an outfit.
Yes I said walked into my closet. My family is filthy rich. There's only four of us, but we live in a two story mansion with five rooms and seven bathrooms. I don't like talking about how rich we are... I appreciate how much money we have, but sometimes I wish we were in the middle class.
I put on a grey tube top and a pair of leggings and ran downstairs to eat some breakfast.
"What will you be having this morning, Ms. Greyleck?"
"Hanson I told you to just all me Persephone."
Hanson is our butler. I don't really like treating him like a butler like the rest of my family does.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Greyleck. I mean, Persephone."
"I'll just make myself some toast. Thank you Hanson."
"Oh, but Persephone, I insist I make you eggs benidict."
"And I insist you make yourself eggs benidict."
"Well if you need me, just ring."
"Yeah, I will."
Hanson walked off to do whatever Hanson does and I made myself sourdough toast and over easy eggs.
"Mom! I'm leaving!" I yelled, after I finished breakfast.
"Okay, Honey! I'll see you later tonight!" She yelled back from up stairs.
I probably won't see her. She rarely comes out of her room. She's constantly working on things for her job.
I got in my black 1967 Chevy Impala and connected my phone to my radio and started playing Johnny's Rebellion by Crown the Empire. When I got to the school I found a parking spot and grabbed my backpack. It has the marauders map design on it and says I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. I slowly started making my way towards the 100 building, which is where my English class is.
I suddenly got this feeling that someone was watching me. I started twisting the ring on my finger. I got it from my grandmother, who got it from her grandmother, and it continues until a relative from the 1800s. She was accused of being a witch because of it. It has black diamonds and apparently black diamonds are a sign of a witch. I'm the first to wear the ring since, because everyone else thought it was bad luck. I personally believe it gives me good luck.
I stopped and looked around. Everyone was chatting with their friends, except one person. There was a boy leaning on his car, well man I should say. He wouldn't take his eyes off of me. He was tall, maybe 6", and he had fire red hair and light brown eyes. He was covered in tattoos and wore gages. He was smoking a cigarette. He took a hit, blew the smoke in my direction, grabbed his bag, and walked away. I was frozen in spot. He was flawless. Too flawless...
I couldn't pay attention in English. Not that it matters, we were just going over the syllabus. I already read it. I always get things done early. It makes things easier for me. Anyways, back to why I can't pay attention. I just couldn't get that red head of my mind. I don't know why, but something was off about him. Maybe it was just because I'm not used to seeing people like him. I come from a small town where nothing ever happens, plus being homeschooled, I've never seen anyone who looks like they've never done a good thing in their life.
"Persephone!"
"Huh? Oh, our final is on October 13," I said, quickly snapping out of thought.
"Could you please try to look interested? Thank you," Professor Penrose said, turning around and walking back to the front of the class.
"How'd you do that?" The girl next to me asked.
She had dyed red hair. Her eyes were a light blue, with a green circle around them. She was quite pretty.
"Do what?"
"Answer. I knew you weren't paying attention. It was quite obvious."
"I read the syllabus yesterday. I remembered it because it's on a Thursday. We were one day off from taking a test on friday the 13."
"I'm Chaos."
"Persephone. Nice to meet you."
"You too."
After English, Chaos and I packed up and walked outside.
"What's your next class?" She asked.
"Choir, with Professor Parker. You?"
"Same! I'll walk with you!"
We walked to choir together, getting to know each other better. I was so engaged in our conversation, I didn't realize someone was walking towards us. I ran into him and my binder fell out of my hands. When I looked up to say sorry, my eyes were met by those light brown eyes that belong to the boy in the parking lot.
"Watch where you're going, witch."
He walked away, not even bothering to help pick up the mess he helped make.
"Did he just call you a bitch? I will fight him."
Chaos started marching towards the boy, but I grabbed her wrist.
"No.. it's okay, Chaos. Really. It was my fault."
"No. It wasn't. He saw you were talking to someone. He purposely did that, then called you a bitch."
"I don't think..."
"What?"
"It was my fault. Let's just go to choir. We're going to be late."
I couldn't pay attention in choir either. But not because I couldn't stop thinking about him. I couldn't stop thinking about what he said. Why would he call me a witch? Why didnt he say bitch? Maybe it was an accident. Maybe he doesn't cuss. Oh who am I kidding. He probably swears more than a sailor...
