Black and Blue
Black and blue
colors everyone wishes they never knew
Yet there are a sad few
Who will only see black and blueA precious bundle of unmade plans
So beautiful and light
Yet that light began to become a little less brightBlack and blue
The only colors some children ever knew
Not pink and yellow of laughter from tickles
Or gold and brown from late night hot chocolate and snugglesLittle girl terrified
She'd leave her room if only bruises would heal
A home is no place to hide
Only shall they seeBlack from a punch to the face
From sleeping in two seconds too late
Blue from bruises along a young girls neck
From why?
Just to make the child crySoft pink lips made to sing soft lullabies
Spew out harsh, loud, and destructive words
The same words sink deep
Like barbed wires into a child's mind
Snagging on thoughts none should ever thinkFor a child listens
And believes
What their parents speakShe told you she was down, you let it slip by
So from then on she kept it on the inside
She told herself she was alright
But she was telling white liesBlack and Blue
A child should feel safe
In the homes where they lay
Not barely hanging on to life
Throughout the harsh night
By hugging their pillows tightlyThey fight their own brain
Yet still deal with the never ending pain
White and InnocentChildren wearing long sleeves
All year long
Like a soldier with battle wounds
Bleeding from every cut their body consumes
Believing no one cares
To save them from their self-hateShe'll make it out, but she's never the same
She's looking down, at the scars that remain
She's looking out, from the war that's inside
She's screaming outThey try to fight
Claiming it is not right
Others say to talk
But it never leads to anything
They never fix the real problem
Claiming it is only meShe hurts, she breaks, she hides and tries to pray
She wonders why does anyone ever hear her when she cries
So now you see
Deep inside we are bleedingOnce dancing among stars
Now treading on eggshells
Trying to get rid of the monsters inside our heads
And put all our faults to bedBlack and blue
The only colors we thought true
Yet now red decides to join these painful huesLiquid rubies begin to cascade down
Cover the black and blueberry bruises
Salt and pain refuse to leave this final game
Reminding ourselves we were just born at the wrong time and wrong place
We will be leaving soon just stare at the moonSo lay your hands on the left behind
We all know how it feels to be forgotten for a while.
In a crowded place trying not to feel alone,
Just remember that we've all been broken once
You don't gain a single thing from miseryTake it from me
Dried eyes tonight, there's nothing more that she could do
And they cry tonight, a daughter that they hardly knew
And she's lost in timeIt was the people who were supposed to love us no matter what
That made us feel worthless
It was the people who said they could help
That said it was just us
The people that are blind to our cries
It was the people who could have been allies
That turned the blind eye
It was the world in the end
That lost another person who only got to see
Black and blue
Our chosen few
How we want to be heard to be rescued
