Joseph Campbell once said, "We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us." Maybe that was right, but for me, I had my life planned, and the life waiting for me was not the one I wanted to have.
Sitting in a black sedan, I look out the window up at the angry clouds, and the water droplets falling down to the ground, hitting the roof of the car, almost as if trying to break it. I sit back in my seat and watch the driver as he tries to see over the windshield wipers wiping the rain off the clear glass. Suddenly, with no warning, I fly forward as the car skids to a stop. I feel my head getting dizzy and the car turning, turning, turning.
I look up and yell, "What is going on!"
The driver looks back at me. "There w-was a c-c-car," he stutters, looking very frightened.
I pull my hood over my hair and get out of the car. We had turned off the road, and the car was stuck in the grass. I walk up to the street and see a truck stopped in our lane, going the wrong direction. I start running up to the car to see who was in it.
"HEY!" I yell as I pick up my pace even more until I reach the truck. I bang on the window of the driver's seat. "You were driving in the wrong lane! We swerved off the street! What do you think you are doing?" I say in complete anger.
The windows were so dark that you couldn't see inside, and I was starting to think that no one was even in the truck, and started to turn away until I heard the faint noise of a window coming down. I turn back around and meet a guy's face, probably around the age of 19, with dirty blond hair and dark brown eyes.. I walk back up towards it, but at least an arm's length away because he was scaring me with his intense stare.
"Okay," he said, shrugging.
I let my anger get the best of me. "Ok? That's it? Are you crazy? You could have killed both me and my driver, and all you have to say about that is okay? I can't believe it," I exclaim, rolling my eyes.
"What would you like me to say?" he asked a hint of amusement in his voice.
"First off, try saying your sorry. You know that normal people would usually say that when they almost kill someone. Secondly, I'd like it if you could explain to me what you are doing on the wrong side of the road." I say, annoyed at him for acting oblivious to the situation.
"Alright, then," he said, then sighed. "I'm sorry. I was on the wrong side of the road because there is a storm and I couldn't see very well. I can't help noticing you're out here all alone while it's pouring. Would you like a ride home?"
I stepped back, astounded. "Are you really offering me a ride home after you almost killed me? You just said you couldn't see very well in this storm, and you're going to drive someone home." Angered at him again for being such a lunatic, I turn around and start walking away.
"Well then, see you later. Don't say I never offered you anything," he said by way of goodbye, then I heard the engine start once again and the sound of fading tires against the wet road.
I walk back down towards the car thinking about what he said. See you later. Don't say I never offered you anything. That all sounds like something you would say to someone that you expect to see again, but I never want to see him again.
When I arrive back at the car, I look around for the driver but don't see him. Then, from the woods, comes a running figure straight towards me. I start to back away, thinking that it might be that guy trying to hurt me for some reason. I hold my hands out in defense.
"There you are! I've been looking everywhere for you!" said a relieved voice.
I lower my hands, confused. I look for who the voice belonged to and saw my driver. I mutter a quick apology and then take out my phone to see if we could get some help, seeing as our car won't work and all. I call the local police station in Skystead because my phone's GPS had picked up the town that we were in.
