Ella shivered in her bed from the overbearing cold, tossing and turning in her sheets trying to catch the much needed sleep. Her eyes started to droop from the exhaustion, when suddenly, the door to her room creaked open the slightest bit.
Ella was wide awake now.
She stood up and walked towards it, shaking in anticipation as she lifted her hand and grasped onto the handle. She pushed it open quickly before pressing her back against the wall in her room. Her heart was beating fast, and she wouldn't be surprised if her neighbors down the block could hear it.
She peeked out the open door and peered around the corner -once she felt it was safe- and walked silently into the room, her stepfathers room, for comfort.
Ella gasped quietly at what she saw. Her step dad was sitting on the bed sharpening a large kitchen knife nonchalantly while whistling an eerie tune. His eyes were hooded and he looked as if he were high on some drug, adrenaline, maybe?
He glanced up at her before slowly smiling, showing her how happy he was to see her walk in and see him holding the item.
"Well, I see you decided to take a visit at my room," he stated, cleaning the dirt from his nails with the weapon.
Her stomach lurched as he walked towards her, holding the knife in his hand. He twirled the knife, throwing it from hand to hand.
"I-I, um, saw the light on a-and I just wanted to s-see what turned the light on." Ella coughed awkwardly. Glancing around the room, to avoid looking at her father, she took notice of something else. There, on his desk, was a limbless body. She gaped at it with wide eyes before turning back to him quickly, swallowing down the bile that escaped her throat, and cringing in disgust at the taste.
"I took notice that you saw my new hobby." He grinned, looking down at the knife that took place in his hand, and poked his fingertips with it, almost hard enough to draw blood. He glanced back up at Ella. "Want to be a part of it?"
Before she could answer, he lunged at her, digging the knife into her abdomen. Her father yanked it out, staring at the red tinted knife. "Mmm-" He moaned, dragging his tongue up the knife slowly. "-Delicious." His eyes were hooded even more in bloodlust as he continued to stare at Ella.
She coughed out blood, trying to get away, and she had succeeded, pushing the man away hard enough for him to stumble back onto the floor as he was distracted.
Ella ran out of the room and into the hallway, holding her arms out letting her hands run along the wall, so she could maintain balance as she limped as fast as she could with a distorted vision.
Her erratic breaths bounced off the walls as she looked side to side searching for the door to leave this home. The halls seemed to stretch and go on and on forever. Ella felt tears well up in her eyes, she wanted to leave so bad -so, so bad- but she couldn't find a way out. She felt trapped and knew, somehow, that she would be stuck in this home forever, whether it was as a ghost or not.
She didn't want to be here. She didn't want to be here at all, no, no, no. Ella slowed down, unconsciously giving up mentally and physically as she bled out. Her body slumped against the wall and slid down it, not even cringing in pain anymore as she sobbed silently, giving into her father.
She sighed, looking up at the ceiling, her face streaked with tears, and wondered why it was so quiet. Had her father finally left her alone? Had he went to sleep and gave up?
Nope.
Ella screamed in fear as, out of the sea of darkness behind her, a hand grabbed her foot and drug her across the hallway floor. She clawed and scratched at the wooden boards, desperately trying to hang onto anything, but it was too late.
Her cries filled up the house and her pleading fell upon deaf ears, except her father's as he chuckled in delight. While the neighborhood and the rest of the world either slept soundlessly or walked carelessly on the streets, the poor girl was being tortured for hours.
Ella took her last breath in that room.
No one heard from her again.
