Ella awoke from the stairs creaking, she had always been an extremely light sleeper, so it was nothing new. She sat up in bed, her eyes hooded with sleep, listening for anymore noises before falling back down onto her pink pillow with an exasperated huff.
"Ella, go see what the noise is," her older sister mumbled, almost incoherently, before snoring again. Ella groaned and rolled her eyes.
"Okay, whatever." She yawned, reluctantly getting out of her warm bed, and she shivered as her pale skin was exposed to the cold air. This was how it was all of the time, her sister heard a noise, and Ella would have to get up to see what it was.
Ella trudged towards the base of the stairs and looked up and saw her 7 year old brother standing there with his hands behind his back. "What do you want?" Ella sighed in annoyance when he ignored her.
Suddenly, his thin, small lips curled up into a smirk, exposing small sharp, yellowed teeth. This must've been that new Halloween costume he had just got, since, you know, Halloween was in a few days.
"Why didn't you just wait till tomorrow morning to show me?" she yawned, bored by his annoying antics.
He ran back up the stairs before Ella got to say anything else, so she just shrugged it off. Her brother has always been weird, anyways.
She walked back to her room that she shared with her sister, climbing back under the covers, yawning again, and brushing off what just happened, as if her brother didn't wear an extremely realistic costume that actually kind of had her scared. It deflated her ego a bit.
Ella awoke once again hearing someone by the opening of the room -there wasn't a door. She opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling in annoyance and hoped her sister wouldn't wake up to see what it was again. But, with her bad luck, she did.
"Ella, go check again," her sister mumbled, her voice heavy with sleep.
She sat up slowly, biting her bottom lip as she rolled off of her bed slowly and looked around the dark-lit room.
Ella lurked towards the stairs steadily, and looked up to see her brother again. Ella stared at him for awhile and took notice that his eyes were pitch black, no whites or irises or pupils. She saw a gleam from the corner of her eye, making her look down, and ended up seeing a kitchen knife in his hand.
She gulped and put her hands up slowly, perspiration forming on her forehead and nose. Ella was panicking at this moment, obviously, and was too nervous to even breathe.
She finally found it in her to speak, but as she opened her mouth to say something, he stabbed her in the arm. She quickly turned around and her first instinct was to run into her room where she felt safe and he followed closely behind her.
She felt as if she were running in place and getting nowhere. When she finally made it to her room, she sighed in relief. Until she turned around, that is.
Ella raised her arms to protect her face from the vigorous stabbing, her body jerking and flinching with every hit. Ella's pleas were falling upon deaf ears, and her sister just lied there in her bed with her hands behind her head, watching the whole thing with amused eyes. She couldn't believe her right now.
The stabbing stopped after what seemed to be hours of torture. Ella sighed in relief but stared in horror at her mutilated arms covered in thin, dark, rustic orange blood, which didn't seem to make sense and made her puzzled.
Ella started to feel dizzy as she slowly lost her blood and she fell to the floor, sighing with resignation, accepting her fate. Her brother stood above her with a look of great peril as she passed out.
