Chapter 3

Chloe

"Like what? I ask her.

"Like I told you! I'll think of something!" Maddie snaps.

"Girls." I hear my mom mutter under her breath.

"Ugh. Whatever. So did you hear Josh and Nia broke up?" I say.

We gossip more, about anything.

"I've got it." Maddie suddenly says.

"Got what?" I ask.

"A plan?" She says like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

"Right." I grit my teeth.

"So what is it?" I question.

"It's a secret." Maddie says. She sounds like she's four years old when she says it.

"Okay." I say plainly.

Me and Maddie seem to be breaking apart. She's always keeping secrets.

All the sudden it just blurts out.

"Another secret Maddie? Really? Everything's a secret! I'm sick of it! I thought you were my best friend! But now? It really doesn't seem like it!" I shout.

Maddie looks like she's about to burst into tears. "I though you were my best friend too." She says quietly and runs out of the room.

What did I do.

-

"Maddie? Maddie!" I yell. I've been looking all over the house for her.

"Sweetie." My mom approaches me.

"What." I shoot back.

"Maddie's mom called, she says Maddie ran home." My mom says.

"What!" I shout. Me and Maddie have gone to school together every day sense preschool.

I sulk up to my room and shut the door. I crawl into the little room inside my closet and cry.

I look around. This was me and Maddie's hideout. There are a bunch of drawings on the walls from when we were five. Maddie's favorite stuffed animal, an elephant named Hiccup. There's a paper faced down on the floor. I pick it up and Read it out loud.

"Maddie Ziegler and Chloe Lukasiak. Age 6. Best Friends Forever."

I stifle a sob. It's only 7:43 and I've already lost my best friend.
