arrows came raining down upon the small but fierce dwarves as they struck down enemy after enemy, but they had been fighting for hours and were few in numbers. many of the arrows stayed true to their path, and dwarves fell everywhere. warm blood splattered all over kili durin's face as an arrow hit the dwarf in front of him, square in his chest. there were few dwarves left able to fight, kili and fili a part of them. it was a losing battle, and they all realized it. soon enough, the Wargs and goblins began to advance, inch by inch. thorin oakenshield yelled encouragement to the dwarves, as they started to panic. another volley of arrows attacked the dozen of dwarves left standing. many more went down, including kili.
"AGHHH!" kili grunted. a large, black arrow passed through his shoulder with ease. blood splattered everywhere as kili fell to the ground, writhing in pain.
"KILI!!!" fili yelled in desperation, trying to fight off the overwhelming number of their enemies.
hot tears rushed down kili's face as he started losing conciousness. he was aware of the fact that he may be trampled to death if he didn't get up soon. with his good arm, kili pushed himself up, letting loose a weak cry. fili looked over at him for half a second, concern and doubt filling his eyes. as kili pushed himself out, he blacked out for a few seconds. he felt rough hands picking him up, and heard feet running. when kili opened his eyes, he saw fili carrying him, a huge gash on his left cheekbone. it was bleeding profusely, dripping down his face and onto his torn armor. kili then realized that fili had a limp.
"fili..." he moaned weakly. "are.. are you okay?"
fili glanced down at kili and said breathlessly, "yes, i'm fine. don't worry abou-"
suddenly, a huge Warg came bounding into fili, as it tore at fili's chest. fili screamed with horror as blood seeped out from the massive bite wound. the Warg was about to land the final blow to his neck when an arrow came whistling past and right into the Warg's heart.
a she-elf came running up to fili, and picked him up.
"my.." fili mumbled. "kili is.. hurt, on the ground. save him.. not me."
the elf looked around for kili, and spotted him. there was a large patch of dark red on the ground by his shoulder, growing steadily. he was barely concious, staring at the elf.
*she's beautiful,* he thought. *she.. she has fili. she's taking fili away!* kili struggled to get up, his bloodied face undoubtedly concerned.
the elf swiftly picked up kili onto her back, and ran to the healer's tent. she set the brothers down on a bed with a pillow of walnuts. fili moaned, and lost conciousness.
kili looked over at his unconcious brother and yelled, "NO! FILI!!!" he tried getting up, but the elf stopped him.
"do not worry. he's in safe hands, now. you are as well."
kili stared at the elf. her reddish-brown hair was flowing perfectly along her back, her eyes filled with concern. "who are you..?" kili whispered. "you saved our lives... why?"
"i'm tauriel," she said. her voice was soft, and calming. "i saved you becau-"
suddenly, kili cried out in pain, and fell to the ground. he thrashed around until he was still. "help.." he said weakly as he fell unconcious.
-
when kili woke, there was no one to be found in his tent. he felt a bandage around his shoulder, and had a vicious headache. kili looked over to find fili gone. panic filled him as he got up to look around. the moment he stood, he felt a wave of nausea pass by, but continued on. kili was determined to find his brother, so he unsteadily walked outside. looking around, he saw disfigured bodies strewn across the battlefield, along with bent swords, dented shields, and limbs caked with dry blood. resisting the urge to gag, kili slowly made his way to another tent. finding tauriel there, he walked over to her.
"where is my brother?" he asked breathlessly. "is he okay? what has happened to him? is he alive?"
tauriel looked at kili with sad eyes. "i'm afraid he might die." she looked down. "we have tried so many spells and medicines; nothing will work. the Wargs must have poisonous teeth. we cannot help him."
kili's eyes filled with tears. "but.. where is he?"
tauriel pointed towards a flap inside the tent, going into another room.
kili limped over to fili's bed, frustrated at how slow he was going. he knelt down beside his brother, who was taking deep, raggedy breaths. "fili!" he hoarsely whispered.
fili's bloodshot eyes opened up. "do not worry about me," he said. "you will be a great king."
"no!" tears spilled down kili's face, splashing onto fili's ruined chest. "i will not allow it! you cannot die!"
fili smiled faintly. "i'll do everything in my power to keep living. but sometime this poison in me may take my life."
kili cried out in pain. "no, no, no, no, no! TAURIEL!"
tauriel came running in swiftly. "is everything alright? how is fili?"
kili looked up at her, his cheeks wet with tears. "i need you. please help. in anyway possible. i can't live without him. he is the other half of my soul."
tauriel nodded. "there is a way... but it may kill him, or if you could help and the other elves.." she trailed off, deep in thought.
"how?!" kili said with despair. fili suddenly started coughing up a mixture of some sticky black liquid and blood. "tauriel? tauriel! we're losing him!"
tauriel looked at kili, her eyes filled with determination. "get the other elves. go!"
kili came back with several elves, trailing behind him. tauriel motioned them to go over by fili, and spoke to them urgently in elvish.
turning to kili, she said, "we will be using our energy and health to be channeled into fili. we need your help, or we may all die. just press your hand against his arm. quickly now!"
kili lightly put his shaking hand down onto fili along with the rest of the elves. they all started to chant in elvish, and a white light filled the tent.
after several minutes, kili felt his strength draining away quickly, and started feeling dizzy. he looked at the elves who were all deep in concentration, and back over to fili. his brother's color was coming back to him, and the grey, sick look started fading away. suddenly, kili blacked out, and fell to the ground, unconcious.
-
kili woke with a nasty headache. he tried to get up, but dizzily fell to the ground. he pulled himself up again, limping outside. he saw fili and the elves standing outside his tent, worry evident on their faces.
"kili!" fili ran over to his pale brother, and embraced him. "the elves said that the poison in me could have been transferred to you. do you feel okay?"
"yes, yes," kili murmured. "has anything happened while i was unconcious?"
one of the elves spoke. "the war is over. but there are countless among the dead. it cost all of us a great deal to win." a single tear flowed down his face.
"what has become of thorin?" kili asked.
tauruel spoke up. "he has claimed the Lonely Mountain as his own." she looked down and blushed. "i suppose you'll be leaving to stay with thorin. or would you like to come back to mirkwood and collect your weapons that we took from you? you could stay a while if you wished. you will be welcomed."
kili looked over fili. a silent conversation passed between them, fili nodded.
"yes, we will go with you, but we won't be able to stay long. thorin will want us back."
tauriel smiled, her perfect, white teeth shining in the gloom. "well, off we go. come along!"
