Des couldn't resist. I think he got addicted to the Animus. He entered it. Again.
The glitch happened again. He kinda expected it, so he wasn't very surprised. Des appeared in front of Firenze's prison. "Palazzo something..." he hadn't memorize the name.
Then he saw Ezio. Tall, strong, a wealthy man in his best years. He was just sitting on a bench. Staring at a prison's "window". Probably thinking about his father. Just like Dez was thinking about William...
Ezio has started a conversation with the woman sitting next to him. That was...Minerva! She had taken a human look, so no one was able to see that this was actually a goddess. Desmond quickly sat on a near bench and started listening.
"...and that's why Desmond is in great danger, Ezio. You must save him." the female voice whispered and Des hardly heard it.
"But how, signora, how to do that?" Ezio sounded worried.
"You must unite. All. The great assassins who were, are and will be remembered. All of Desmond's ancestors. You must unite. And defeat Juno. This is the only way. She is playing tricks with his mind, making him believe in a machine...she has a plan to break him. But if you help him, he will endure."
Desmond was shocked. All his thoughts about the Animus were based on a lie? On a trick? And what? He somehow must get all of his ancestors in the present? Or in a separate memory? Why? To defend himself, as Minerva said, or something bigger was behind this, something bigger to save?
"Now, prophet, speak with Desmond Miles." Minerva pointed at Subject 17 and left him alone with Ezio.
