AN. Just thought I would try and make it a bit clearer. Within the story there is quite alot of speech marks, "normal speech marks" is when something is said outloud, and any 'apostraphies' is when something is said within the mind. Hopefully it makes sense! Read on, and i hope you enjoy it :-)

Once upon a time, before the age of war and technology had begun, there was a small village just beside Lake Tahoe in Nevada. This was not just an ordinary village. For many years, the humans in the village lived in harmony with the werewolves that resided in the woodlands. The wolves helped protect the humans, and in return the humans allowed them to live beside them and hunt in the forests. This was before the Hunters came.

As the unearthly beings marched into the village it seemed as if the entire village had turned colder overnight. The Hunters claimed the village as theirs, and many of the humans fled in fear. As the amount of Hunters began to outnumber the werewolves, they soon realised that to defy the hunters would only end in slaughter.

Many of the werewolves began to retreat to the mountain area whilst only the brave ones remained. The most courageous of them all was the Alpha of the pack, Berric.

Berric stood his ground to the Hunter’s Leader and refused to leave the village that he had protected his entire life. One day he tried to reason with the Leader of the Hunters, declaring that they too could live side by side in peace. The Leader tore off Berric’s head in a fit of rage and drank his body dry. He turned to the wolves that were watching in disbelief and fear.

“This is what will happen if you ever come back.” he hissed to the wolves.

The remaining wolves ran from the town and watched over the village from the mountain tops.

Years began to pass, and the remaining population of werewolves began to drift. Some passed on and others moved away in search of a new life. No matter how many years passed there was always a small pack of loyal wolves watching over the human’s tiny village. Waiting for a Hunter to threaten the human’s existence.

Then, and only then, would the pack intervene.

Hayley sniffed around the damp mud that surrounded the trees, deciphering whether or not the smell lingering on the bark was safe or new. It was an unfortunate duty, but someone had to look out for any dangerous beings. Her mother had taught her from a very young age that any new smell was not a good thing, and for now she would have to be very careful in case it was the smell of a hunter.

Even the mere thought of a hunter sent shivers down her spine.

Hayley crumbled her wet wolf nose in disgust as she began to recognise the smell. One of the other girls had peed there.

‘Being the Alpha of the group definitely has its disadvantages’ she thought to herself.

She began to trot back to the only place Hayley had ever considered as home. It was a medium sized cave that went deep enough so that it was sheltered if any bad weather was to occur, and it was warm enough for the winter months. If they did get cold there was an abandoned cottage not too far into the woods that they could use.

Hayley peered down into the village. It was evening time, but it was still light enough for her to see that no one was walking about. She still found it strange that even after all this time she had never physically seen a hunter or a human before. Sometimes she wondered if they had all died, and her pack could go back to living down there again in peace. She shook this idea from her head immediately. There was still something down there, she could feel it in her bones.
