'Maddy! Time for school!' The 13 year girl slipped her phone in her bag then raced down the stairs and out the door. She zoomed down the busy streets of Melbourne to her local school, Saint Angels Academy for the Academically Gifted.
She burst through the front doors of the academy. She raced to her first class, slid through the door and slumped down into her desk, daydreaming about her future horse. Her teacher Miss Holister was rambling on about something but Maddy wasn't listening. All she could do was imagine herself riding a magnificent silver beast over misty mountains with her long golden hair flowing behind her in the wind. She sighed, flopping onto her desk, still daydreaming. Suddenly her train of thought was interrupted by a shrill squawking. Miss Hollister was snapping at her to pay attention.
Her teacher had large buck teeth and thin glasses perched on the top of her nose with her grey hair piled on top of her head like a birds nest. Maddy sat up straight and pretended to look interested. As soon as her teachers back was turned she did an impression of her large front teeth and everyone laughed. See that was the thing with Maddy. She always seemed to be able to make people laugh. Even with a simple bugs bunny impression. Miss turned around and stared daggers at the class.
The bell signalling the end of school vibrated through the halls. Everyone burst out of class and raced for the port racks. Maddy slung her bag over her shoulder and strode out the doors. 'See ya Maddy!' 'Bye Maddy!' 'Later Madz!' Everyone called after her. Maddy was also the most popular girl at school.
As she was walking along the back streets of Melbourne, Maddy heard a faint whinnie. She followed the noise and found herself standing in front of an abandoned field. A silver mustang, grazing on the short strands of grass. Maddy's jaw dropped at the horse standing alone in an abandoned paddock. It doesn't even look like it has an owner.
Maddy checked that no one was looking and slipped through the fence and slowly walked towards the mustang. She got out her phone and snapped away. She tried to get closer but the horse reared up. Maddy ran as fast as she could as the beast stampeded towards her.
