That afternoon Maddy's mum left a voicemail. 'Hey sweetheart. Just letting you know that I won't be able to pick you up after school as I will be at the hospital with your father. Don't worry, he just fainted and will be OK. We just have to stay over night. You will have to walk home. I have rung Annabel to come and look after you. She will be there at six. Stay safe my love. Bye!' At first Maddy gulped in anxiety for her dad. What had happened? Was he ok? She began biting her lip. Hard. She felt blood trickle down her chin. She stifled a scream. Maddy didn't like blood. She grabbed a tissue and mopped up the blood. Then she realised she had the WHOLE AFTERNOON TO HERSELF! She could do anything and didn't have to be home till six! Annabel, the girl who looks after Maddy, wouldn't even be there by then. She was always late when her mum and dad had to go some fancy place for dinner. Suddenly her eyes lit up in excitement. The field! She could go and visit the field!! And the beautiful silver horse. The creature that was permanently imprinted in her mind, would be waiting there. Oh, how Maddy dreamed and dreamed of galloping into the distance with her golden hair flowing behind her. She slung her bag over her shoulder, muttered goodbyes to those who passed her on the way out and positively skipped down the busy Melbourne streets in excitement, heading for the field.

"Neigh!" Maddy smiled as she dropped her bag and leaned against the old wooden fence, gazing at the beautiful creature. She marvelled at the way he galloped across the field and dipped his head to nibble at the grass. Maddy slipped through the fence and slowly walked through the tall wavy grass. Suddenly the mustang stopped in its tracks. It tilted it's head towards Maddy and grunted then rolled on the ground. Maddy snorted a laugh at the way it tossed and turned in the soft pasture. She carefully strode over to the rolling animal gently coaxing it to get up and greet her. The horse just grunted again and continued to roll around in the dirt. He reminded Maddy of a pig playing in mud. She gently lay a hand on the creatures neck and it stiffened. She held her breath and began stroking the horse. He whinnied and shivered in delight at her comforting. She smiled and got the horse to stand. He was so magnificently tall and strong and beautiful that Maddy couldn't believe he was unowned. 'Not for long' she thought. Maddy was going to make this gorgeous creature hers. No matter how long it took.

BOOM!!! A loud thunder clap suddenly sounded above them. Maddy shrieked and the horse reared up and neighed in horror. Maddy felt cold wet raindrops streaking down her face. She'd been so intrigued by the horses strange behaviour that she hadn't even noticed the dark clouds surrounding them. She tried to calm the horse down but failed miserably. She got thrown in the air and landed in a puddle of mud. 'Just great' she thought. Now as well as being completely scared out of her mind, she was covered head to to in sticky brown goo too.

Suddenly her world turned black.

Lightning had struck.

Sorry for not updating in like FOREVER, but I was super distracted (excuse my lame excuse). Hope you liked this chapter and sorry for the cliff hanger but suspense is key in stories right? Oh well. Thanks for reading!
