PREVIEW:
I run. Faster and faster as my instincts reach their peak of anticipation. They're coming for me. I can feel it. My only two routes of escape are either to face my predators and turn around, or take a plunge down a cliff. I have no choice. I have to trust my instincts, close my eyes, and leap.
As I drop down, my momentum speeds up. I take a few seconds to just enjoy the strangely relaxing feeling of potentially falling to my intemet death. At last minute the feeling drifts away as I open my wings and soar across the cavern to safety. I land but only have a brief amount of feeling out of danger. Then an ear-piercing shriek shatters my conscious, and my whole world goes black.......
I wake up to a scream. Quickly, I grab the closest thing that looks sharp in the dim light. I run down the hallway and into the small bedroom of my little brother and sister.
"Alright stand back I'm armed," I yell a little too loudly. I look around the room and all I see is my sleeping brother, and a small heap of blankets on the cot next to him. "Darla? Honey, where are you?" I call to my sister.
That's when I hear some whimpering.
Like, ACTUAL whimpering. I immediately know where she is. I gently unwrap the heap of blankets to find a small, blue-eyed, blonde-furred puppy. A cocker spaniel to be exact.
I give it a sad smile. "Come on it's okay. I'm here and you are safe, that's all that matters." I pick the dog up and set her in my lap. "Come on morph back. I wanna talk to you."
The young pup closes it's eyes. A
small aura of light surrounds it's body.
The face slowly shifts and shapes itself to look more human like. The body soon follows as the front paws gain hands and stretch out. The tail recedes and the ears turn into wavy, human hair. In my lap now sits a small seven-year-old with powers normal humans only dream about having.
The truth is, she's not the only one.
