I don't remember all of it, or how it started but it was the end of the world as we knew it and for some reason only everyone from my school was there, and a boy i had been trying to gather up the courage to speak to lately was in the group of us children .i was only 14 at the time, and he was 15, older and taller than i was.
we were in a huge abandoned building that was still functional with its electricity but we didn't dare turn on the lights because the monsters from far away would see it.Every day we would train in this building to be prepared for the monsters that we would fight (or at least attempt to)in the future.the boy had brown curly hair, big brown eyes,he was very tall and slim with long arms and long lanky legs with feet that seemed to drag as he walked . he didn't talk to anyone except for me, and when i asked why he told me it was because no one ever attempted to talk to him before or even notice him . Ever since that day i made it my mission to talk to him every day, no matter what, even if it was the most random and craziest things that i would say, i still manged to talk for the rest of the whole day to him and he didn't seem to mind.sometimes while training, and then doing the same at the broken dinner hall in which we held in the main floor, the third. After that i would go to sleep on the 5th floor, room 318,repeating everything i did that day,and then the next. One day at night we decided we'd both stay up late and train because he had a feeling that the monsters and living dead were beginning to smell our scent from only a few miles away, and they were coming. "we need to be ready,i don't want anything happening to you" he murmured, "oh relax"i put down my axe, "josh says he hasn't seen anything out of order!he watches the gates okay?were fine" i said trying to reassure both myself and the brown eyed boy in front of me,"But what if its not..." he paused "and hes just trying to distract us from the fact that the worlds ending?!?" he said in huff gazing back up at me while taking an arrow out of the target ,i took a deep breath "then i'll.. i'll ask him tomorrow okay?",he nodded sighing afterward, his eyes traveling down from his arrow to his shoes. The alarm went off not even 3 seconds later, everyone running and fumbling to gather all their supplies and weapons, i could hear people running on the floor above us.
we both locked eyes.
and we both knew.
he ran to me,dropping everything he had in his hands and kissing me;slowly at first, then faster within each second that went by,deepening it. He broke the kiss and held me closely in his arms, i could feel his heart beating so fast and -i swear time stopped.
in those 30 seconds there was screaming and yelling outside of the door-blood curdling screams, roars that were not human, and gun shots being fired, but i couldn't hear it.i didn't realize that i was crying until he wiped a tear from my bottom lip, wrapping his arms around me and rocking me back and forth to try to calm me down. "please say something" he said in whisper, his eyes closing, more tears slid down my cheek "you always do,you always do..." he whimpered as his voice shook a little at the end,i noticed he was crying too. I couldn't speak,i was struck with the reality that he was right and this time it wasn't something that we could laugh off, because everything we were afraid of- everything that we trained for was happening here,
right now.
and there was nothing we could do to stop it.
