*Valentine's PoV*
I figured I had about an hour to an hour and a half before Corey got back and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with that time. I slipped out of my bed and made my way to the kitchen to find Evlin staring into the fridge. "E!" I watched as he jumped back letting the door close to turn and look at me with a slightly frightened look on his face which quickly faded into anger, and then embarrassment.
"I told you not to sneak up on me like that Val." He huffed as he turned back to the fridge and moved a strand of his long silver hair away from his face. "You need to send someone into town for groceries, we're out of basically everything, and not even I can make something out of nothing."
I laughed softly and nodded. "I'll send someone before dinner time. Have you heard anything interesting lately?" He once again let the fridge shut as he turned back towards me with a playful smirk knowing what I wanted to hear.
He pulled a stool out from under the island and sat down before motioning for me to join him which I did without hesitation. His venom green eyes seemed to glow with excitement as he started."So," he then took a large pause that made me wanna reach out and punch him. "Coen's been underground a lot lately, at least for him. From what I've heard he's got a one or two class A names on his list and a rather short list of B's, and a rapidly growing list of C's, all dedicated to his cause. It's gonna be a little while before any moves are made, but he's not really worried about moves yet, he wants numbers."
I nodded as I took in the information he had just set on the table. "How reliable is your source this time though?" I asked remembering the last time good news about the revolution was brought to my attention. He had said Coen was just going to take everything on on his own, which looking at that sentence alone seemed crazy, but the way E had laid it out for me it seemed foolproof.
He grinned back at me as if he had just been given a mountain of ice cream before announcing. "More reliable than you could imagine, I heard it from Coen himself."
My eyebrows shot through the roof as I stared at my friend trying to comprehend exactly what he had just said. "Coen?" He nodded. "Talked to you?" His grin widened more as his nodding continued. Evlin was just a C class demon, while Coen wasn't just an A class, but royalty at that. To think he actually took the time out of his day to say anything to anyone who wasn't of his blood was throwing me off.
"He was trying to locate you actually." He told me. "He heard some rumor from a friend of his about how your mate is human. He respects you, your position, and your power and feels you could play a great part in the revolution. Somehow he learned I work for you and he stopped me yesterday while I was out and about."
"What'd you tell him?" I asked feeling the paranoia in me surfacing. I had known of his plans for the revolution from day one. Whispers of such things always find their way to me, and ever since it started I knew I needed to stay on the fence until the very last moment.
If I sided with Coen and he failed I could be facing death, if I sided against Coen and he got wind of that he'd see me as an enemy and I might not be able to get to where I need to be. I needed to remain in the middle to not piss off either side, because pissing either side off could very well end in my death or imprisonment.
"Don't worry about it," E said seriously, "you're my best friend, you know I've always got your ass. Here's what happened-
Flashback
*Evlin's PoV*
I stepped into my favorite bookstore more than ready to buy the next book in the series I was reading. I had been saving up for almost a month and I just couldn't wait to have it in my hands, but suddenly my book was put on the back-burner when I felt a hand on my shoulder and was suddenly pulled into a dark room that after closer observation proved to be a broom closet. I was about to start yelling when I saw the pair of blood red eyes staring back at me, and when the light turned on I couldn't hold back the gasp as I was staring right at Coen, the son of the leader in our world.
