Leah's POV

I am a junior at Elk Grove High. I haven't always been though. I moved here a few months ago and started my sophomore year here. Making new friends is always the hardest part of moving though. You leave behind your old friends and have to start all over.

It is the second week of school, a dreaded Monday. I woke up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. It is 6:00 and I have to leave my house at 7:30 meaning I have plenty of time to come up with a game plan for the week. Just as I sit up on my bed, my older brother, Chance, enters my room. "Good morning sleepy head" my older brother says. "Hey, let me guess...you want a shower first" I say raising my eyebrow. His eyes show that I'm right and I immediately bolt out of my bedroom door with Chance hot on my heels. He shoves me into the wall and I wince in the pain that just shot through my arm. He makes it to the bathroom and slams the door shut and locks it. I curse under my breath and start heading back to my room. Chance has always been a brother I can depend on though. He is very protective and I couldn't ask for a better big brother. I also have a younger sister named April. She seems to take after Chance in her aggressive tendencies, but I love them both just the same.

I head to April's room to wake her up since I drive her to school. Chance drives by himself because "driving his sisters ruins his reputation". I find that interesting because we have only been at that school for a week. "Hey, what time are we leaving today?" My sister asks. "7:30" I respond. She starts walking towards the kitchen to get some breakfast and I decided to join since I wasn't getting a shower anytime soon. My mother is standing at the island in the kitchen cooking pancakes for us. "Oh Good morning my girls" "Did your brother make it to the shower first?" She asks. "Unfortunately yes" my sister and I say in unison. My mom just laughs and shakes her head "Your brother is a drama queen about his looks you know" my mom states. We all share a laugh until Chance comes walking down the stairs to the kitchen. "I'm a what, mom?" Chance asks, while knowing exactly what our mother said. "You know exactly what I said dear...I can see it in your eyes". Chance chuckles and starts eating pancakes of his own. The thing about my mother is that she is extremely good at reading people just like I am. I can look into someone's eyes and can "see" their emotions. Chance and April didn't get this trait. But we all ended up with her brown hair and green eyes. My eyes can be a grey, blue or green, depending on my emotions. Chance's eyes are more of a grey green. And April's are a blue green. "Where's dad?" I ask after thinking through traits and how obvious they are when looking at our entire family. "I'm right here, but I have to leave and go to work. I'll see yall after school. Have a great day and try to make some friends" my father states while walking quickly out of his bedroom on the ground level of the house. "By dad, see you after school" my siblings and I state as he kisses my sister and I on the head.

I finally decided on wearing a blue dress that goes to my knees and white sandals. I french braid my hair to keep it out of my face for the day and head to my sister's room to see if she is ready to go. She decided to wear denim skinny jeans with cowgirl boots and a cute shirt to go with it. She leaves her curly hair down and turns to head out of her room. My sister has it a little bit easier than I do...she is a new freshman, so she will have all of her high school years at one place. Chance is a senior now, but moving didn't seem to bother him.

Chance walks out to his white Audi R8 and hops in the drivers seat. I walk behind him to head to my own Buick Encore and get in the drivers seat. My sister will start driving at the beginning of her sophomore year and I am taking her to a couple dealerships to help her pick out a car. My parents are rich but we keep our money a secret to keep fake friends from entering our lives. My car and Chance's car were given to us as a birthday present for our 16th birthday. I am curious to see what car April will pick out.

We make it to the school and April glances at me from the passenger seat. "What's up?" I ask. "It's just...I always thought we would stay in our old town until we left for college. Not that there is anything wrong with moving here." She responds. I see guilt immediately run through her eyes but I don't ask about it. All of us know that mom and dad moved us here for our safety. But I understand how she feels. I lean over and give her a gentle hug and she returns it. We have lunch together but no classes together unfortunately. I really need someone to make jokes with.

We enter the school and notice a group of four guys talking over by our lockers. As we approach I notice that the guys stop talking and look at my sister and I, appearing to check us out. I head straight to my locker with April heading to hers. We gather our things and wave to each other as we head our separate ways.
