Not Meant To Be

The shadow stood by the door, his eyes pierced through the darkness. But today was different. He walked towards me, his heavy steps brought new fear and anxiety to my restless mind. My body crumpled even more with each step he took. When he was getting near I closed my eyes and rested my head to my knees.

I waited for the cold grip.

Nothing.

He only stood silently in front of me.

I raised my head high enough to make it rest in the corner wall, when my eyes looked up all I saw was an angel that stood before me.

He was nothing like anyone I've seen before in my life. He is ethereal. His trench coat was almost touching the ground, underneath he wore a white silken shirt over his masculine physique, tucked into perfectly tailored pants.

My eyes grew wider and willed myself not to blink, fearing that he might disappear from my sight once I do. My gaze followed the angel's face as he knelt down. His soft features staring back at me. Looking at him closely I realized that he seem to glow with an unexplainable radiance. I took deep breaths as the angel continued to look as if he was waiting for me... to let go. My chapped lips slightly parted ways to give way to my voice, but nothing came out of my mouth.

He reached his hand to touch my face but my reflexes shyed away from it. His hands clenched for a while before trying again, his big hands lightly touching me, as he brushed my hair behind my ears.

I felt ashamed.

I curled my body, hiding away my scratches and bites into what's left of my clothes. My favorite pastel blue sunday dress was now tattered and ashen gray with darken hues of smeared blood, evidences left from the previous feedings. Like me, it was about to fall apart.

"Please. Let me help you."

His voice was so soft, it almost sounded like a sweet lullaby. I would be happy to leave this world hearing his voice for the last time. I mustered all my remaining strength to give out a reply on his plea with one of my own.

"G-get me out here... please?"

He scooped me up from the floor, and walked towards the big wooden door. I'm finally getting out of this rotten place!!! As soon as we were outside that dark chamber I felt a mix of happiness and triumph, its an overwhelming feeling, which made me closed my eyes.

I'm ready... wherever the angel takes me...

As his footsteps echoed through the empty hall, my mind wandered through the memories of my youth... back to the time when I turned sixteen...

I almost tripped running from the side of the curb after turning left on the familier street. I always go to the fourth house, where my best friend lives. Joon and I go way back when we were kids and we were inseperable. He was a year older than me but we were enrolled in the same grade.

He was the brother I never had.

I stood in front of their gates and took a peek inside to see if he's out. There was no sign of him.

Siggh. Did he forget his promise today?

I fidgeted through my bag, while waiting. What I didn't know was that Joon was already outside, just hiding from plain sight and waited for the moment I came.

He crept up slowly and tickled my sides, but as always he did it roughly that it hurt instead. I was cringing in pain as he laughed wholeheartedly. I never understood why he enjoys doing this to me!
