It was a beautiful Monday morning and 5 seconds into class, Mrs. Godfrey was already yelling at us.
“Ok class, time to hand in your homework sheets and if it is not done, you will get a detention.” she yells.
“Does she not yell every single day?” I ask.
“Yeah I know, she does yell a lot. Hmm, maybe she has a big mouth!” Leed says.
“Leed! Mrs. Godfrey does not have a big mouth!” I whisper.
“Leed! Ayze! Where are your homework sheets?” she snaps.
“Uhh, um I left it uhh, in my room at home.” I say weirdly.
“I left mine on your desk yesterday at 5th period!” Leed says.
“I gave it to the class 6th period. Leed, did you or did you not do it and either way, you getting a detention, both of you.”
This stinks. I got a detention for doing it but i left mine at home. She could have called my mom. I get out my phone and I text my mom to get my homework in, but she texts back you should have brought it to school and gave it to her. My class walks to Mrs. Wormwood’s class.
“Mrs. Wormwood, can I go use the washroom?”
“Yes you may Ayze but as long as you come back in 3 minutes, ok?”
“Yes ma’am!”
I scoot to the washroom with my phone in my hand and I bump into Mrs. Godfrey.
“Ayze! Watch where you are going!” she yells.
“I’m sorry. I’ll just scoot over to the was-”
She cuts me off.
“What is this? A cellphone? Give it to me!”
“Mrs. Godfrey I can explain.”
She snatched it away from me and heads to the office. Mrs. Wormwood comes out to me and she was not happy.
It’s not fair! 2 detentions in 1 day, how cruel is that?
I hear a voice on the intercom. It was Mrs. Godfrey!
“I would LIKE to announce I am banning use of cellphones in this school. If you would like to know who started this, please congratulate Ayze Haglin in Mrs. Godfrey’s class. Thanks for listening.”
I march up to Mrs. Godfrey and say,
“Look, it’s not fair! Teachers get to bring their phones and students don’t! It stinks!”
“Yeah, to be you.” yells Shorn.
“If you want to get your technology back you have to tell Mr. Egad 7 reasons.” says Mrs. Godfrey as she turns off my phone.
Typical. 7 Reasons?! That’s impossible. I glance at the clock. It’s still 9:16AM. I walk back to Mrs. Wormwood’s class.
“Ayze Haglin, please report to the principal’s office now.” says Mrs. Baysid.
Mrs. Baysid is the secretary in our school. She’s also a teacher on Monday and Friday. I walk to Mr. Egad’s office.
“Now tell me, why do you have your cellphone when it’s not lunch time?” he says.
“Well, I was texti-”
He cuts me off.
“I should have known that. I specifically said no texting in school, do you hear me?”
“Yes Mr. Egad.”
“And for that it’s a detention for you.”
“Do these teachers hate me? I got 3 DETENTIONS!!! IN 1 DAY!!! AARRGGHH! I can’t stand this nonsense!” I say angrily.
“Actually, we can’t stand your nonsense. I have 1 detention. How bad is that?” says Leed.
“I got 1 because of you, YOU!” I yell.
BBBRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG. The bell rings. I go to my classroom to eat. Everyone stared and glared at me.
“What are your problems? Can’t I eat in peace? STOP LOOKING AT ME! IT IS ANNOYING!!!” I yell.
“Your the problem!” says Shorn.
“Yeah, YOU!” yells Leed.
“I AM NOT THE PROBLEM! ALL OF YOU BETTER EAT BEFORE I-”
“What is going on in here?” says Mr. Haglin and Mrs. Haglin.
“Mom? Dad? Heh heh, why are you here?” I say.
“We are here because Mrs. Godfrey called us to talk to you and we are banning you from watching TV and playing video games. And you are grounded for a week. No phone for you until the rest of Fall has passed.” says Mr. Haglin.
Grrrrr, this is so not fair! No technology for a week! My parents leave as I glare at them. I walk to Mr. Egad’s office.
“Yes, what do you want Ayze?”
“Can I tell you 7 Reasons why students should bring their own technology?” I ask.
“Fine but write them down please.”
“Yes sir!”
1. We don’t use paper
2. We type faster
3. We don’t need pencils or pens
4. We can’t forget our textbooks. They’re on the internet
5. We will be more organized than holding a bunch of books
6. They are easy to use
7. You can call 911 in an emergency
I write them down and after 10 minutes, I give him the paper.
“Wow, I am impressed. Just go out of my office for a few seconds.”
I walk out of his office.
“I have a really important announcement to make. Cellphones are allowed in school now.”
I hear a really big cheer from the hallway.
“I would like to congratulate Ayze Haglin for being brave to get your technology back.”
“Ayze, I cancelled all your detentions.” says Mrs. Baysid.
BBBBBBRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG!!! I hear the dismissal bell. I pack up my stuff and head home. When
I get home my parents looked pleased.
“Ayze, your such a good boy! Come here so I can hug you.” says Mrs. Haglin.
“Ayze, you can take all your stuff back and you're not grounded. Here’s your phone.” says Mr. Haglin.
I take my cellphone and charge it.
“Oh yeah! Back to the good old times.”
I sit on the chair and watch TV.
“This is the best DAY EVER”
