A Trip and They're Gone

"IS THIS THE REAL LIFE? IS THIS JUST FANTASY? CAUGHT IN A LANDSLIDE, NO ESCAPE FROM REALITY. OPEN YOUR EYES LOOK UP TO THE SKY AND SEE-." My eyes shot open and I sat up quickly as Benn's favorite song blasted through the speakers. I look around and see that we're stopped. Then I look at Benn and he's screaming out the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.

"Benn! What the heck!? I was sleeping, why didn't you wake me up like a normal person would, you psycho! And where are we?" I glare at Benn as he laughs and turns down the music, looks at me seriously then says,

"What?" A few seconds later Benn starts laugh hysterically and I just keep glaring at him until he's finally calmed down enough to speak again.

"I asked where we were you idiot." I reach in the backseat and grab my converse that I took off earlier. "I'm guessing it's my turn to drive?" I look at Benn and wait for his reply.

"Yep! It's your turn but first we're going grab a bite to eat." Benn and I rush out of the car and into the fast food place, got some food and hit the road again. An hour later Benn and I were in the middle of a rigorous game of truth or dare when his phone started to ring. He answers then puts it on speaker with one hand while the other told me to be quiet.

"Hello?"

"Benn Stevens! Where the heck are you? I get to work and get a call from your school saying you never showed up? Oh my goodness, when you get home your father is going to have a field day! If you're gonna leave at least give us a few days notice! I left work and ran home worried sick for you! I thought you got sick then when I got to your room all I saw was a note say, "Be home in 2 weeks?" Are you kidding me? Where are you Benn?" Oh boy, she was mad. Benn won't get into that much trouble and Helga is too drunk to notice I'm gone. Keep driving, quietly listening to their conversation.

"Mom, I'm fine, Anna is with me. She needed to get away from her crazy mom for a while. I know I should have personally told you but I wanted to get her out of town as soon as possible." I glanced and him and mouthed thank you and Benn just nodded. A few minutes wen on with Benn negotiating his mom into getting our work from school for the next two weeks while we were gone. Then he ended the call and breathed out a sigh of relief. "When I get back, my dad is so going to ground me." He laugh and I did too.

"How much farther?" I glance at him then focus on the road again. I reach over and turn down the radio.

" Well I've been for... maybe 3 hours and I have no idea how long you drove before me." Benn gives out a sign.

"Well I drove about 5ish hours so that would mean we've been on the road for about 8 hours and we have 5 more to go. So drive 2 and a half more hours then we'll switch again and I'll drive the last part." I nod my head and turn the radio back up a bit more. Benn start his god awful singing but I just laugh at him then start to sing along too.

"Okay you're turn to drive Benny boy!" I pull off into a gas station and park next to a pump. I quickly change seats while Benn is putting fuel in the car and soon we're back on the road once more.

"Let's play 20 questions Benny." I smirk and start thinking of all the questions I could ask. He smiles too.

"Okay, me first... Do you still have that video of me doing 20 cartwheels then throwing up?" I think for a moment then remember and I start to laugh.

"Oh my god! YES!!" Then I start to laugh even harder. Benn whips his head around and gives me an accusing look.

"What!? You said you deleted it, you dirty liar!" This made me laugh ten times harder.

"I'm sorry! I had to keep it! Your future girlfriends need to know that you aren't the cartwheel champ. Benn just grunts, looks back at the road and glares at it.

"It's your turn." He grumbles which in turn makes me laugh

"Okay," I think for a moment. "How come you've never dated anyone?" Benn then seems caught off guard and glances back at me.

"Um, well I have always liked maybe even loved this girl for as long as I've known her but I don't if she would ever go for me, ta know?" I look at Benn then a thought pops in my head.

"Pull over and call her and confess you love for her Benny!" Benn sighs then pulls over. Once the car is in park he takes off his seatbelt and get out of the car, leaving his door open. "Benn! What are you doing?" He looks over at me then says,

"Get back in the car. I'm calling the girl I love!" I laugh and send a wink his way saying good luck. Sitting back down in my seat, my phone starts to ring. I pick up the call, hoping it's not Helga.

"Hello?" There's nervousness in my voice.

"I love you Annie." I gasp, surprised and in realization. All this time I had push my feelings for him away, he had been doing that same thing for me. I quickly hang up the phone and get out of the car. Determination in my blood. "Annie, I know you might not feel the same but you've been my best friend for the longest time and I've loved you ever since girls weren't disgusting and-" I stopped his word with a kiss, our first kiss to be exact. Never had I ever been so happy to finally share my actual feelings for him and this moment couldn't be more perfect. O pull back from the kiss, look at Benn, then whisper.

"I love you too Benny."
