" Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get." - Forest Gump
Listen to Ocean eyes by Billie Eilish or Ruin by Shawn Mendes.
-------------------------------------------------------I didn't know that this would happen.
I didn't expect to fall for her.
When I first met her I saw her as a shy girl who hid behind a hoodie. A girl with a bad past and one true friend.
But the thing is, I saw her.
And I've always seen her.
Other people just let the world glide by at the speed of light, but when I looked at her time stopped.
Her beautiful hair, so chocolatey brown that it looked as if it would melt away at the most delicate touch. Her laugh. So sweet, so innocent, so captivating if you have the ears to hear it.
I've noticed that she likes to fiddle. She fiddles with the sleeves of that lovable red hoodie and the two silver rings resting delicately on her collarbone.
Her skin is mocha taupe shaded and it's so sun kissed that I fear it would burn my fingers if I were to touch it.
She's so pure, so Wren.
She has everything that I've ever dreamed of all rolled into one.
She's beautiful, but she doesn't know it. She's got the personality of a best friend, but she could be so much more.
If only she didn't have him.
I stared longingly at them on the dance floor. My view was shrouded by a mane of fiery red hair.
I tried to peer over my partners shoulder to gaze at her.
The blue of her dress was mesmerising. Although I couldn't help but notice that it matched her boyfriends eyes.
I guess a brown dress wouldn't look good on her anyways.
Oh who am I kidding, anything would look good on her.
Her hair is pinned neatly into a curly up-do, and although it looks beautiful, I have to agree with Ash on this one; I prefer her hair down.
It cascades over her shoulders like a chocolate fountain and falls so softly.
She's clinging onto him like he's all she's got. She's got me too, god I want her to know that she's got me too.
I drop my hands from Faye's waist. I don't want to endure this torture anymore. I can't.
The next thing I know I'm out in the woods climbing the ladder that I know so well. The treehouse gives me a place of refuge from my swirling mind.
I'm a frenzy of emotions.
I take up my usual spot, leaning on the rails of the wood in order to get the best view of my surroundings.
I can't remember the last time all three of us boys came up here together. Both of them are so busy with other people. They've got it all going for them. Zack's got enough money to last him forever; and Asher, well he's got Wren Martin. The most beautiful chocolate in the box.
It seems like hours have passed until I'm met with the sound of crunching leaves below. I don't even care to look around, it'll be one of the boys as we're the only ones who know about this place. It's been our own little safe haven since I can remember.
When I finally turn around to meet my visitor, I'm not expecting to see the red haired vixen herself.
"Faye?" I don't know why I was asking if it's her.
She's the only person I know with a shock of crimson hair like that.
"Brody." She stared up at me. There's a distinct sadness in her eyes and a pang of guilt hits me for leaving her alone at the prom.
"I just needed some air, sorry for taking off like that." I forced a smile at her.
"Don't apologise Brody. We both know you weren't enjoying yourself."
I gulped. Was I really that easy to read?
"Faye I--"
"You know, I think it takes heartbreak to find happiness. Until you've had your heart broken you can never really appreciate the people who are always there. Because when your heart gets broken, those people are the ones that grab the tape and start sticking it back together, piece by piece. It may seem like the worst thing in the world right now. I know it does, I've felt it. When Asher stopped looking at me and started looking at Wren, it hurt. It still hurts. But he doesn't just look at her like he did to me. No, he takes in every single detail so that he can memorise her and keep her in his brain."
"Faye why are you--"
"Let me finish." She gave me a stern glare and then chuckled softly to herself, "You'll get over her Brody. One day you'll stop seeing everything as Wren, and start seeing the world as someone else entirely."
I'd never have put Faye Archer down as a secret poet and romanticist. She certainly left me thinking though.
I guess time really is the biggest healer.
I looked at her.
And I mean really looked at her.
I stared at her features, her sloping nose and upturned eyes. I took in her blaze of hair and her emerald green prom dress.
The gown suited her perfectly, most garments of clothing do. It was strapless and had one of those necklines that looks like the scoopy part of a spoon. The gems that adorned the bodice sparkled against the midnight blue sky.
The material that made up the skirt flowed in waves from her waist to the tips of her shoes.
Her hair was curled and down and her eyes glistened with an emotion that I couldn't identify.
It almost looked like lust but was overruled with worry.
Her pale skin stood out against my tanned complexion.
And for a second, I didn't see the world as chocolate, mocha or taupe coloured.
I saw it as a kaleidoscope of fiery red and sparkling green.
I saw her.
