Chapter One

Reaching ahead of me,  I feel for substance by slowly angling my body cautiously to avoid running into anything prematurely.  I tentatively feel along the edges of something hard and seemingly unbreakable and smile before remembering my objective.

Cautiously stepping forward a few steps, I realize then that I'm now in the doorway to my bedroom.  I find myself giggling as soon as it registers that I've only got approximately 2 more feet ahead of me before I win.

I'm gonna beat you!!

I jump forward unexpectedly and run right into something very hard and very immovable, causing me to find myself currently on the floor and rubbing my nose. Taking off the blindfold,  I move to see what I hit and find myself rolling my eyes.

Meanwhile, said wall starts laughing at me.  "Hahaha!!! Holy hell, Al, that was funny!! Oh my God, do it again!" My maniacally laughing little brother, Simon, is currently holding his stomach like he's trying to hold himself together.

I just laughed and start picking myself up off the floor and rubbing my backside,  where I landed.  Man, that's gonna leave a bruise,  I thought.

Amberlynn, come help me set the table in the kitchen please, my mom asked telepathically.

Sure, mom.  Bring Simon to help too?

Actually yes, please.  I need to go over a few things for the weekend before I go back to work.

Ok, we'll be right down.

Simon decides to start trying to tickle my side to try and mess up my mental concentration at that moment but I sidestep him out of my room and close my door in his face.  Laughing, I then open it again to see his mouth open in shock of how slick that was, which in turn makes me laugh even more.

"Come on, slow poke.  Mom wants us to help set up dinner and to talk about rules this weekend, I think," I tell him.  Turning around, I start the process of finding my way downstairs from my attic bedroom to find my mother at the front door with a seemingly calm, black and grey wolf in our open doorway.

Are you Amberlynn? I hear this calm, cool voice in my head.  I look around and there's nobody there.  Looking back to the peculiar scene shows me that the wolf is now calmly sitting on his haunches and seeming to stare at me. Those light grey eyes are definitely watching me.

Huh, I thought to myself, well this is new.

Why yes, yes I am.  Who are you? And how do you know my name?

As I ask, I tilt my head to the side to study him.
