Chapter one;

< not edited >

"Coke? What are you doing here?"

Kathy took a step back. Something told her this was not right - how did someone that passed away two years ago come back to life and stood right in front of her?

"Kay."

That familiar nickname. That nickname that never fails to make her heart go warm and bubbly inside. When they were young, Kathy would call Cole Coke, while Cole would call her Kay. They used to run around in Kathy's lawn playing catching. Now, the guy that stood in front of her had grown into a tall, handsome and unusually cute although Kathy would hate to admit it. Instead of the nerdy boy that loved checkered shirts and baggy jeans, Cole was wearing a hoodie shirt with skinny jeans.

"Kay, are you okay?" Cole asked, worry filling his eyes.

Kathy came back into reality. She found her cheeks turning pink as she thought he might have realized that she was busy checking him out. Cole's voice has changed too- no longer the high pitched one that made Kathy laugh every time Cole's voice broke out of nowhere. Now it was slightly deeper, not high and not exactly very low. It was sexy and wonderfu- wait what?

"Coke, is this for real? That you are standing right in front of me?" Kathy was still very confused. Everything did not make any sense at all to her. Even now, both of them were in a place that were filled with little cottages. Actually, it was Kathy's neighborhood. They were both just standing right outside Kathy's house, a pretty humble cottage with pretty flowers in the lawn.

"Yes Kay, it is real." Cole gave a warm smile, his two dimples appearing on his cheeks. That smile that Kathy missed for ages ever since he left her.

"But Coke, aren't you already dead? Why are you here? You aren't supposed to be here." Kathy asked, looking straight into his blue eyes.

"Afterlife i guess. Not really sure, but aren't you just happy that you can see me again?" Cole shrugged, messing Kathy's hair. "Hey! You know i really hate that." Kathy frowned, punching Cole lightly on his chest.

Just after that light punch, Cole seemed to fade away. He seemed to become distant and didn't really seem like he was there anymore.

His legs disappeared first.

"C-"

Then his body slowly disappeared into thin air.

"Co-"

Both of his arms started to fade.

"Cok-"

His face, with a little wry smile, began to follow just like the rest of his body. The last Kathy ever saw was the small sign of hurt and loneliness in Cole's eyes. They told Kathy a lot about Cole since young. Cole may be able to hide his feelings well, but his eyes were not able to.

"Coke!"

Kathy woke up with a jolt. She looked around. She was in her bed, in her normal bedtime clothing. "Kat! Are you awake? It's breakfast time! Julie is coming over any moment now!" The familiar shouting of her mother could be heard throughout the entire house - considering her house was not really big.

"Coming mom!" Kathy got out of bed immediately, taking a quick bath and changing into her usual clothes, a pair of skinny jeans with a crop top. She threw on her high top white sneakers and quickly braided her hair to one side. She ran down the stairs after grabbing her backpack and books.

The smell of freshly made pancakes filled Kathy's nose the moment she ran downstairs. Her tummy grumbled at the sight of the delicious pancakes with syrup on top.

"Hurry up, tuck in. Julie called and said she was coming over in ten." Mrs Miller patted Kathy's back as she came out of the kitchen with more pancakes.

As if on cue, Kathy started gobbling down the pancakes, stopping only for a moment to drink some apple juice. Her mouth was stuffed with pancakes.

"Slow down Kat. Slow down." Her mom reminded her.

It has been Kathy's bad habit when it came to food. She just could not hold herself back from the delicious food.

A loud horn could be heard from the front porch. "Kat! Hurry up or we will be late for school!" Julie shouted.

"Coming!" Kathy stuffed her mouth with a couple more pancakes and rushed out of the door. "Bye mom!" She shut the door and ran out where her best friend, Julie was waiting for her impatiently.

"Gawd, Kat you got to stop stuffing your mouth every morning. I either see syrup or some sauce on your lips and you don't even bother to clean it with a tissue." Julie started her morning talk.

"Sorry Jules." Kathy apologized, hoping it would redeem herself from being too much of a pig. Julie has been Kathy's best friend ever since Cole passed away. She saw Kathy in school and had showed her concern even though they were strangers. Sometimes the two of them looked so alike that they could even be sisters and get away with it.

"Did you sleep well?" Julie asked. That made Kathy think back to the weird dream last night. Believe it or not, people say that you usually do not remember dreams but for some reason, the dream about Cole still lingered in Kathy's head.

"Yep, sure did. I dreamt of pancakes." Kathy did not really think it would be normal to tell her best friend that she dreamt of a dead person yesterday. Julie might think of her as a crazy person.

"Seriously Kat? Pancakes?" Julie rolled her eyes.

"Yes, seriously." Kathy grinned.
