Chapter 1: Cienna Paige
"Move." One simple word and every kid in the hallway moved to the lockers, clearing an isle for me. I strutted steadily through the terrified crowd with my head held high. Every student knew me. They all knew not to get in my way.
You see, I didn't have a great reputation. I wasn't the smartest or the most athletic. I wasn't popular or rich. I was.. Mean. Both students and teachers trembled when they heard my name. They were right to.
I loved being feared. It gave me a massive sense of power that you just can't achieve by being friendly and sweet. I pushed people down to make my way to the top. It's how I was raised. You don't get your way by making friends, so why waste the time? I saw no point in even trying with these idiots.
I strolled slowly down the hall, allowing everyone to get a good, long look at me. I felt so.. Effective. Eyes burned holes in me, but I knew that these people had no influence. They could never hurt me. I was on a whole different level from them.
Even the large, athletic seniors had moved to the side to let me pass. In only two years, I had created myself. I was the official badass.
Chapter 2: Knox Worthington
Wow. That's all I could think. She was wow. Not in that girl-next-door gorgeous kind of wow, but the extremely bad and hot kind of wow. She was different and wild. And totally out of my league.
I watched her as she breezed through the hall. Her raven black hair hung down to her waist, swinging with her step. Her cold blue eyes gazed straight ahead of her, never faltering. Her long, toned legs flexed every time she took a step, her boots barely hitting the ground.
No one could resist staring. She was the epitome of beauty, yet in a vastly different way than anyone of us could imagine. She could be a model if she wanted to, I'm sure of it. She abruptly stopped a few feet ahead of me and turned to the left. All she did was lean toward the lockers about half an inch to make every kid standing in the vicinity cower and step aside. She popped open her locker, grabbed a textbook, and continued walking.
I watched as she strode up the stairs, disappearing. Only after she was completely out of sight did people start to talk and move again.
"Did you see her eyes?"
"How did she grow her hair that long?"
"She freaks me out."
"Did you hear what she did last night?"
Voices filled the hallways, thrilled and terrified and curious. Everybody in the whole school knew her and her reputation. She was the most popular, despite what the cheerleaders thought of themselves. She was practically famous.
She was Cienna Paige.
Chapter 3: Cienna Paige
It took everything I had to not laugh at them as I walked up the stairs. Already I could hear their petty whispers, talking amongst themselves as if they all knew me.
That was where they were wrong. They knew of me. They knew my reputation. But not on my life would any of those idiots know me. I wouldn't let them in and show them who Cienna Paige really was.
The real Cienna Paige was weak. She was soft and afraid. But no one knew that. Except me, of course.
I actually loved coming to school since it was the place where I felt strong. I didn't feel the depressing drone that I felt at home or work. I didn't have to think about my mom in the hospital or my dad in jail. I just had to focus on Cienna.
