“RORY!” Amy’s obnoxious scream came ricocheting through the endless rooms and corridors of the TARDIS. The sound bounced painfully off each wall until finally its echo hit the Doctor and Rory who were busy undertaking repairs on the main console.
The Doctor, flinching away from the awful noise, looked with pathetic eyes at Rory, “I think she wants you.”
Reluctantly, Rory placed the not-so-sonic-screwdriver he had been using back on the console and made his way to where he had heard Amy’s cry come from. He journeyed through several corridors, mazing his way up and down stairs; passing the swimming pool and detouring through the library until finally he came to his and Amy’s bedroom.
Inquisitively, Rory tapped lightly on the door before helping himself in. Amy stood aligned right in the middle of the room. Despite her torturous scream, she was, to Rory’s deep relief, looking slightly happy. Seeing Amy’s pleasure Rory grew even more puzzled.
“Ah.” He turned and closed the door behind him before taking several steps closer to Amy. “You called.”
“Yes, I did.”
“And?” Rory leaned closer in bewilderment at Amy’s mischievous childish grin.
“I’m pregnant.”
Rory lost his footing for a moment and stumbled back a step before gaining his ground. At first, he only felt dazed, but as he heard Amy’s short little giggle he couldn’t contain the grin that spread wide across his face.
“You’re pregnant?” Rory half asked, half laughed.
Amy nodded slowly, hands clasped behind her back.
“We’re having a baby?”
“Yes!”
“Oh!” He cried, racing forward rapidly and scooping her up in his arms. “This is great!” Amy’s high pitched giggle erupted as she squealed in Rory’s scrawny arms.
Rory loosened his grip on her and glanced down at her stomach. “I’m going to be a father. Blimey, I’m going to be father. A dad. Dad.” He bowled the words around on his tongue and, almost as if he was test tasting it. “I like it.” He concluded with a smile. “And you’re going to be a mother!”
“Yeah, I know.” Amy scowled.
“We’re going to be parents!”
“Yes!”
Rory placed his hand softly on Amy’s slightly swollen belly. “We’re going to have to think of a name for him.”
“Her name will be Emily. She’ll have my hair,” Amy studied Rory hard, examining his features, “Your eyes, your chin but thankfully, my nose.”
“Oi!” Rory cried out, slightly embarrassed. “There is nothing wrong with my nose. Besides, how come you get to decide what it looks like?”
“Uh, Rory.” Amy looked at him like he was the most outrageous idiot she had ever laid eyes upon. “This is my baby. I have to carry this thing around for nine months. I think I get a little say in what it looks like. That’s how it works, Rory.”
“Yes, right.” Rory nodded, not wanting to argue with her. “Of course, that’s how it works.” Rory grinned, cradling Amy again. “Ah, we’re having a baby! We’re having a baby!” He spun Amy around in a circle, twirling her like a dancer.
“Oh, you’re crushing Emily.” Amy whispered.
Rory stopped and placed his hands back on Amy’s stomach. “I’m sorry, precious.” He whispered to the baby. Amy laughed and grabbed Rory’s hands in hers.
With a burst of nerves and a little excitement, Rory looked sharply up from Amy’s stomach to her face. “Have you told the Doctor?”
