I do and don't agree with the idiom because we are not all like our parents. There are many ways that we are not like our parents and there are many ways that we are like our parents. A way that we are different from our parents is that we don't look the same and we may not think the same way as they do. We are somewhat like our parents because for example my stepdad used to run track when he was younger and I am following in his footsteps and running track.
