As snow slowly fell to the ground, you made your way through the frostbitten land. You don't remember how you got there, or for how long you've been there. But, it didn't really matter to you all that much. What mattered was your duty; your vow to keep this land free of the monstrosities that call it home.
It didn't make sense to slay these beasts, but it felt so right when you did so. The feeling of your blade effortlessly cutting through the rotting flesh of the villagers, or at least, what's left of them. They resembled odd, crow-like creatures; they were grotesque in every shape and form, so you felt nothing when ending their lives.
As you make your way through this land, you think to yourself. You can't even remember the last time that you spoke to another sane human being, or anyone for that matter. Hell, sometimes you don't even remember how to speak. Though you wouldn't admit it, you yearned for some sort of human interaction.
Your sword is the only company that you've ever had; it was a black sword of decent length, with diamond-shaped holes in the middle of the blade. The hilt had a golden design on it, which trimmed the edges of the blade as well.
It was well made, and although you can't remember who crafted it, you're thankful for them doing so anyways. The most defining feature of the sword was that it could burst into black flames at will. You didn't know how you could do this, and you didn't question it either. You only did this for the toughest of enemies; you didn't do it all the time because it drained your energy rapidly.
After an hour of walking and killing, you sighted a rickety old bridge that crossed a massive ravine. A fall from that height meant certain death, even for you. You stepped onto it and made your way across, the wood creaking as you advanced. On the other end was a massive chapel with two massive oak doors serving as it's entrance. You made your way to said doors and pushed them open, revealing a softly lit room. It was vacant, all except for a seemingly blank canvas.
Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a painting of the land. It was quite well done too, and for a painting to be here must mean that someone is around. As you look at the painting further, you find that you can't take your gaze off of it. It's almost like it has you caught in a trance, seeing as you can't move either. You being to panic, but your body won't move. The painting starts to swirl and your vision blurs as well. You feel your legs give out on you, and fall down, closing your eyes.
================================================================================================================================
Your eyes open, and immediately you can tell that you definitely aren't in the land that you're so familiar with. It's much too warm and the trees here aren't covered with snow. In fact, there isn't a flake of snow anywhere at all. You stand and look around. It seems to be a forest with huge trees towering overhead, creating a canopy of leaves. The sun is going down and the light starts to fade. You need to find somewhere to stay, and fast. You slowly rise to your feet and grab your blade, sheathing it.As you looked around the forest, you spot an outing. It looks as if it leads to somewhere away from the wilderness, so you make your way towards it. When you arrive, the sight you see takes your breath away.
It's a massive tower with some smaller buildings surrounding it. There are walls on the outside and what looks to be a courtyard as well. Your cloak fluttered in the wind as you viewed the place. You'd never seen anything like it before! All that you had previously known was snow, trees, and monsters. This was a whole different story. There was even a chance that it was inhabited by someone, people that he could actually interact with.
Slowly but surely, you made your way to the buildings. It was almost completely dark at this point, so you had to hurry. You took in the sight as you neared what looked like the main facility. Standing in the middle of the courtyard, you gazed up at the tower. It was gigantic, and made out of metal. All of the buildings in your home were made out of stone or wood, so this was very different to say the least.
You walked around the complex and looked for an inhabited area. There were rooms with no lights on inside, and all the doors were locked. Disheartened, you kept walking around. After about thirty minutes, you heard some footsteps. You looked over in said direction and started walking towards it, putting you hand on the handle of the blade; you never know what could happen, so you chose to be ready.
When you rounded the corner, you saw a humanoid figure with an odd stick in hand. The stick looked to be a cane, and the figure turned to face you. It didn't attempt to harm you or charge at you, no, instead it only looked at you.
"Who are you, and why are you roaming my academy at this hour," the man asked in a non hostile yet firm tone.
You didn't know what to say, seeing as you hadn't even spoken in so long. All you could do is just stand there and let him talk to you.
"I...I...," is all that you could manage to mutter. It was shocking to hear yourself after not speaking for so many years.
The man slowly walks towards you and stops in a ray of moonlight. The light allows his features to be seen clearly. He had a youthful face with a calm look to it, and round glasses. His hair was the color gray, and it gave him a wise look. He held a cane with a silver grip and lever on it, which glinted in the moonlight. He watched your every move as you both stood in silence.
That silence was broken by the man speaking to you once more.
"Follow me into my office. We need to get this situation assessed and hopefully get you to talk," the man said as he started walking towards the massive tower. You followed him and stepped inside of this odd device. It's doors closed and you rose to the top floor.
DING!
The doors opened and you and the man walked out and into the office. It had revolving circular devices everywhere, and they were continuously spinning. It was almost calming in a way, as they made a 'tick' sound every few seconds.
The man sat down behind his desk and motioned you to sit down in front of it. He looked at you before speaking in an interested voice.
"Can you tell me your name," he asked as he kept looking at you.
You just shook your head, conveying the message 'no'. It would take you a while before you could speak again. You'd have to listen to others talk for a while before you could do it as well.
The man sighed as he realized he'd have to start resorting to yes and no questions.
"Can you speak?"
Again, you shook your head.
Truth be told, the man didn't really know what to think. He had found a wanderer on school grounds at night. He didn't look to be from here either, so he could only assume that you were from a different kingdom.
"My name is Ozpin, and I'm the headmaster of this school. This place is called Beacon Academy, and it's a place for young trainees to become full fledged huntsmen one day. You're welcome to stay here for a while until you get back on your feet. Then you may go wherever you choose," Ozpin said as he watched the man's expression quickly change.
You had no idea what a 'huntsman' was or what any of this meant. All that you know is that this man, Ozpin, had offered you a place to stay. You were clothed in a dark cloak and under it, you wore clothes made out of hide. You looked homeless almost, and in a way you were.
You slowly nodded after Ozpin said what he had to say. This caused the headmaster to smile. He was intrigued by you and your weapon; he wanted to see what new things you could bring to the table. After all, Ozpin definitely knows potential when he sees it.
