Bella stared lovingly down at her two children. "Kids... I'm gonna tell you an incredible story, the story of how I met your Michael..."
Taylor sighed, running his fingers through his dark brown hair. "Are we being punished or something?"
"No."
Claire rolled her light brown eyes skywards. "Yeah, is this gonna take a while?"
"Yes."
Both kids groaned. Their mother had a habit of telling long and pointless stories.
"It was way back in 2016... I was 13, just starting to make it as a student and living in New York with my neighbor Luke, my best friend from elementary school. My life was good, and then Uncle Luke went and screwed it up..."
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Luke stared into Bella's eyes. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
"Yes!"
Bella smiled. "Yes... Perfect! Now all you've got to do is call her, invite her over, she says yes, and then boom! You're together!"
. . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sarah and Luke were sitting on Sarah's couch, laughing about a joke Luke made. He prided himself in being quite an able comedian, and his good friend Sarah thought his jokes were fantastic.
Luke stared deep into Sarah's gorgeous eyes. "Sarah... I've got something to ask you."
"Anything for you Luke!"
He took a deep breath. "Here goes... Sarah Anne Cambridge, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Oh... Oh my god! Luke, of course I'll be your girlfriend!"
Luke pulled Sarah close to his chest, enclosing her in a warm embrace.
Sarah's eyes were trained on Luke's lips. Oh, how much she wanted to close the space between them and passionately kiss him, but she thought better.
Stop thinking like that Sarah, she told herself. Take it slow.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
It felt like Bella was going to be a corpse before she got to the front of the line at Starbucks. Maia, Sarah and the rest of her friends had already placed their orders, and were waiting patiently at the drink pick up area. As the woman in front of her demanded an excessively complicated order, Bella realized she was next in the queue.
She smiled at the cashier. "Hi there, could I please get a venti vanilla frappucino with whipped cream and a double chocolate muffin?"
"Of course. And can I get a name for that?"
Bella was about to say her name when she locked eyes with the cashier. He had glistening blue eyes and a stunning smile that somehow made her want to smile back at him. His chocolate brown hair was styled into a quiff at the top of his head and his name tag read out Jack. She was left in awe by his utterly natural beauty.
"Uhhh... Excuse me ma'am? Can I get a name for the order?"
Bella's cheeks turned a bright pink. "Uh... Um, yes, order for Bella."
Jack chuckled, revealing his bunny rabbit teeth. Bella swooned.
She joined her friends at the other end of Starbucks, and after a minute or two the gorgeous cashier strolled up to the counter with a large white drink and a paper bag displaying the green Starbucks logo.
"Venti Vanilla frappucino for Bella!"
As Bella grabbed the drink her fingers brushed against his. She felt a burst of electricity between them, and her heart started beating at lightening speed.
"Whoops, here's your muffin!"
She thought she was going into cardiac arrest. As she heard the cashier sing out her order, she couldn't help but wonder what else he could sing. His voice sounded like an angel's, chiming through the small Starbucks. Was she in love?
