I don't remember much from when I was younger. But I do remember "it."
It was a couple days after my 8th birthday when I first saw it. I was at home watching television when my grandma came into the room and sent me off to bed.
"Can I finish this episode?" I begged
"No, it's already 30 minutes past your bed time, and you have school tomorrow." She said
"Oh alright." I said as I marched upstairs.
I went up to my bedroom and I opened the door. As the door slowly creeped open I heard footsteps rush to the door and the door slam shut."GRANDPA!" I shouted.
I heard footsteps running across my room as my grandpa fumbled up the stairs.
"What's the matta' with ya kid?" He said in a grumpy tone.
"There's someone in my room. Can you hear it?" I said
The house fell silent except for the room on the other side of my door. Who or whatever it was sounded like they were breaking everything in my room.
"What am I listenin' ta?" My grandpa grunted.
"There's someone in there!" I said.
"I don' hear nothin." He said in disbelief.
He opened the door and stepped in. I heard footsteps run toward the door and then... my grandpa turned on the light and the footsteps stopped.
My grandpa surveyed the room and turned around."What'd I tell ya kid. There ain't nothin here." He proclaimed.
I sat there and stared in my room as My grandpa walked down stairs.
"G'night kiddo." My grandpa said.
I walked into my room.
" goodnight gramps." I said still dumbstruck.
I walked into my room and searched my room for any evidence of anything leaning toward a break in or something.
I decided there was no point and went to my door and turned off the light.
I heard the footsteps again and I turned around just in time to see a black figure running toward me. I turned the light back on and jumped toward my bed. I turned fox back toward where the figure was and it was gone. Just like that it vanished. I creeped back toward my light switch and placed my finger on it, turned it on and darkness swallowed the whole room. I saw something move out of the corner of my eye. And it darted toward me. I turned the light back on and it vanished. I left it on and looked in the corner the figure came from. Nothing.
That was the first time I encountered "it". "It" was what I named it after wasted hours of pondering. It showed up nearly every night and since that one night I've never slept with the light off. One night I woke up to my door creaking open and I shot up to see what it was. My grandma reached her hand into my room... and turned off the light. She closed the door and walked off. I shot up out of bed and sprinted for the light. But it grabbed my leg and pulled me back toward the bed. I kicked myself free from its grasp and got up. I felt something hit the back of my head and I fell. I grabbed the back of my head and felt a liquid I could only guess was blood. And it grabbed my leg once more and this time it bit my leg. I screamed in pain as it clawed its way up my body. I tried to shake it off of me but it wasn't doing anything. I felt it's claws digging into my shoulders and I elbowed it. I felt the weight and pressure leave from on top of my body. I got up and ran for the light switch turned it on and instantly felt a sense of relief. I looked at my leg to see what kind of damage it caused and I saw no bites, not marks, and no blood. I grabbed a flashlight and went down to the kitchen where I grabbed a knife and went back upstairs. I turned my flashlight on and gave a sigh of frustration then turned the light off.
...
...
...
Nothing...
I turned off my flashlight and instantly felt a sharp pain in my leg so excruciating that I dropped the flashlight and fell to my knee. I heard it run toward my from the right. I jerked my head in its direction and gripped the knife tightly in my hand. It lunged itself at me and I grabbed the knife with both hands and pierced where its heart would be if it had one. A smell of decay filled the room and the figure turned into a black vapor. Then the stench and the vapor disappeared and I got up and turned on the light. My leg instantly felt better again and I went downstairs and put the knife back in the knife block. The knife had shown as if the whole thing never happened. I went back upstairs to my room and turned off my light and went to bed.I never spoke about this... experience to anyone. And I also never saw the figure again. And I never slept with the lights on again.
