Arletta took a deep breath and opened the door to the school building. It was still early but her father warned her that registration might take a while so she should go early just in case. Her father not her mother. She after three years of living with her mother was now living with her father. How ironic seeing as her mom was the one who wanted her, but now she was being dumped in the garbage like a piece of trash.
On her way in to the office she being the klutz she was had to drop her books and then trip over them. The secretary laughed, "Arletta, still alive with all bones intact?" "Yup. You remember me?" "How could I not remember you? So you went here for ninth grade, so registration should be quick." "Thanks Ms. Shapiro."
"Actually Mrs. Richards, now."
"Congratulations! Who's the lucky guy.""You probably don't know him, he's from Kansas. Maybe I'll introduce you one day."
Arletta skipped up the stairs; she'd forgotten the nice people, here. "Why so happy?" A handsome boy probably a senior asked. "Freedom of happiness. It's a free country." "Never said it wasn't. But why?" "None of your business." "Alright," he said amused. Arletta thought she might have heard an accent but maybe she just was home for awhile and forgot how to talk in a normal accent.
"Do you have an accent?" "Yes, as a matter of fact I do," the boy replied his eyes twinkling. "Oh, it's Australian?" "Nope. British." "I was close at least." He rolled his eyes then asked Arletta her name. "The names Bond, James Bond." "Seriously, what is it?" "Arletta Grey. My friends call me Ara if they're in the mood though." "Am I your friend?" "If you want to be. But then I'd need to know your name." "Tyler Evans."
Tyler opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by the bell. "Goodbye, Ara." "Goodbye, Tyler." They set off in opposite directions. Ara to chemistry and Tyler to Math. She was late to class unfortunately just missing the bell. Then the teacher gave her a freaking detention which Ara didn't think was fair seeing as they came at the same time. When she pointed this out the teacher just glared and asked if she would like a double detention.

It was lunch and she had no idea what table to sit at. She knew most of the people but honestly didn't want to sit with her old friends. "Hey, Ara. Sit with us." Tyler called. She nodded and sat there. At the table she recognized Holly Anderson and her ex who's name didn't deserve to be in her brain. There were some kids she didn't know who they were but their faces were familiar."Guys this is Arletta." Tyler said. Ralph opened his mouth, "I know who she is." "Wow. My ex knows who I am. I feel so special." She said sarcastically. "Hey Holly long time no see. Sorry, people don't know your names." "Michael, Zach, Andy, Cora, Rebecca, Shelley and Summer." Holly said pointing. "Got it. Nice to meet you." There was a chorus of heys and nice to meet yous.
"We have drama together," Ralph points out. "How long will it take for you to realize I'm not interested in you. I moved on." "No you haven't, you've just ran away. Escaped for a while but you're still in love with me." "Dude, get over it. She doesn't like you anymore." Zach said. "Thank you, um Zach?" "Yeah, Zach Davis." "And Ralph." "Yes?" "I hate you. You are less than nothing to me. And I think I'll join dance instead of drama."
"You dance?" "Yeah, I took classes since I was five. I really want to go into acting as a career. Like on Broadway. My mom agrees so I took voice lessons and dance class. I started dance before I wanted to be an actress though..." Arletta stopped realizing she was rambling.
"I didn't know that." Ralph said. "I wanted to be an actress since seventh grade. For someone I dated for almost a year you really no nothing about me." "Don't get a so worked up, it's no big deal." He told her. She flung her math book at him. It hit him in in the stomach causing him to groan in pain. Arletta flashed him a vicious smile. "Don't get so worked up, it's no big deal.
