Then, on Christmas Eve, I was given a new family, completely unprepared, but a family who would care for me and love me unconditionally. By my forth birthday I could speak in fluent sentences but still couldn't run without leg braces, and even with them I couldn't run fast. The following Christmas, was when I finally ran without leg braces. I woke up, ran down stairs and then everyone looked at me and looked at my legs. I looked up and answered, "No, Why?" Then I realized, I ran without my leg braces. I smiled and screamed. "MOM, DAD, I RAN WITHOUT MY LEG BRACES. I DID, I DID!!! DID YOU SEE IT? DID YA? DID YA? This excited my whole family except my brother, he was always jealous of me whether he liked to admit it or not. Without opening presents, my mom called my Peoria doctor and made an appointment immediately, we actually didn't open present until after January began.
