Deep in a forest, there lived four clans of wild cats.
The cats of Nightclan lived in a pine forest and had mastered the skills of stalking in darkness.
Waterclan were excellent swimmers, indeed the only cats in the forest who didn't mind water and enjoyed the taste of fish. They lived on a large island surrounded on all sides by a lake.
Treeclan lived under the shelter of the trees and were very good climbers, not afraid of heights or falling.
The cats of Swiftclan lived on the open plains and ran fast to catch rabbits as their primary prey.
The clans were, for the most part, peaceful with each other. Cats were allowed to make friends with other clans, but sometimes a clan would steal prey from another's territory. This would often result in battle, unless an agreement was made.
There are only a few rules in the forest, known as the Warrior Code. The most important rules of the Code are:
1. Care for your clan before others
2. Be loyal to your clan
3. Kits, mothers and seniors must be fed first
4. Do not cross into or steal prey from the territory of other clans
5. Do not choose a mate from another clan
All the rules of the Warrior Code hinge on the fifth rule. If that rule is broken, all the others may also be shattered.
This is the story of one little she-cat who broke the fifth rule.
