Chapter Two: Today's The Day
****One year later****
I tried covering my eyes from the scorching light that leaked through my blinds. It was already too late though, I was awake. I yawned loudly as I threw the covers off of me and sat up. I looked at my phone and smiled. Today was the day. I was going to another hockey game. This time I was going with one of my close friends Kayce. She was older than me but I knew her from my freshmen year of high school. She was like an older sister, always looking out for me. She is absolutely obsessed with the San Jose Sharks. I was absolutely ecstatic about today and couldn't wait. I walked downstairs hoping my dad would be up by now.
I knew he would want to spend some time with me before I drove off to the game. This was a big deal for both of us. He was letting me drive on my own. His baby girl going off into the great unknown. My dad and I are pretty close. I told him everything and most of the time he was the one taking me to doctors appointments and going out at 1am to buy ice cream for me after a bad break up. He was my number one guy. He was my hero and my bestfriend in a way. He was always hard on me. He feared I would end up like my brothers. Lucky for him I didn't.
My parents divorced when I was in 8th grade. My brothers hated my dad saying he was terrible and honestly at the time I hated him to. I was such a terrible kid to both my parents. My dad never gave up on me though and by the time I had turned 16 I was a new person. I had grown a lot faster than most teenage girls and I was far more mature than most teenagers. My brothers still hate my dad though. Sometimes I get frustrated with it because my dad has also grown with me. He always tried his hardest to make it up to my brothers but no matter how hard he tried it was never good enough. So in a way I'm all my dad has left, other than my gram.
"Well good morning, you look like shit!" My gram said with a giggle as I walked into the kitchen.
I smiled and laughed. My gram and I were also very close she was like my number one role model. She was one of the main things that helped me mature and become the person I am today. Our relationship was like no other. We could cuss at each other and call each other names and it would be all out of love. I spent almost all my time with my gram. She made me happy and honestly she meant the world to me.
I grabbed a glass of water and sat down at the table and watched as my gram ate her cottage cheese.
"I don't know why you eat that crap gram." I cringed at the lumpy mess on her plate.
My gram rolled her eyes and made a face that made me spit my water out.
"Hey you two, behave!" my dad said teasingly as he walked into the room.
My gram and I looked at each other and started laughing. I then walked up to my dad and hugged him tight.
"Good morning sleepyhead." I said in a baby voice.
He laughed and hugged me back. He walked over to the coffee pot and started pouring himself a cup. My phone started ringing and I walked in the living room to answer it.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hey! Are you excited about tonight??" Kayce chirped.
"Of course, I can't even wait!" I squealed.
"Drive to my house around 3:30 alright don't forget?" She reminded me.
"I won't! I'll see you then. Alright bye." I smiled and hung up.
I walked back into the kitchen and caught my dad frowning.
"Aww, dad it's only for tonight. I promise I'll be fine! you have nothing to worry about!" I reassured him.
"I know I just worry that's all. Just promise you'll call me when you get there and when you leave?" he said in a fatherly tone.
"I promise!" I smiled.
