Delilahs POV
The sound of beeping is what woke me up from my previous sleep. I cracked my eyes open and looked around the room. It was a hospital room.
My head began to hurt as I remembered what happened prior to me being in this hospital room. If I wouldn't have passed out I wouldn't even be in this bed. I could be at home right now in my own bed.
My fore arm has a white cast covering all the way up to my elbow. There's one part up by my fingers that's wrapped around the one that was bent sideways. I look around only to see that nobody is in here.
I couldn't have been in here long because I'm still in my clothing and the only thing on me is a gray thing around my finger to measure my heart beat.
I stand from the bed and pull off my 'heart monitor' before looking around for my bag. It should be in here somewhere right?
Turns out it's not in here anywhere.
I open the door and walk down the hallway quietly searching for the front check in desk.
My nostrils fill with the smell of bleach and I mentally gag. I've always hated that smell.
I take a turn at a corner and see it sitting against the back wall of the waiting room area. Women and children wait to be attended to in the chairs that sit back on the walls.
One little girl strolls out of a room with a metal pole holding liquid which is dripping into her arm. I don't really pay attention to her until she bumps into my leg. I look down at her to find she has no hair. My heart sinks. She has to be only 4 or 5 and to be plauiged with what I'm assuming is cancer at this age must be terrible.
"Sorry miss" she says up to me, smiling.
I smile back to her "that's alright"
She points to my cast "what happened to you?"
I explain to her how a mean girl tripped me and I broke my arm by accident. She gasps and shakes her head as I tell her how I fell asleep and stayed in a bed at the hospital.
"I hope your arm feel gooder tomorrow" she says once I'm finished.
I smile at how cute she is to say 'gooder'
"Thank you little lady. I hope you feel better soon too" I say, meaning every word.
A woman who I assume to be her mother steps from the room.
"Hello I'm Sara, I see you've met Lily" she gestures to the little girl who giggles quietly.
"Yes I have met Lily, she's very wonderful" I reply sweetly.
"I'm sorry to take her from you but she has a chemo therapy session" I see her eyes sadden slightly but she recovers quickly with a smile.
I nod my head and give the small girl a high five before she skips down the hallway after her mom.
I make a quick silent prayer for her to heal before approaching the lady at the front desk. She looks up from her computer at me and smiles dully.
"How may I help you?" she forces her voice voice as cheery as possible.
"I need my bag and I need to check out please"
"Name ma'm?"
"Delilah Mason"
She clicks some stuff on her computer before handing me my bag and telling me I can leave. I take my purse from her and search to find my phone as I walk from the doors.
I finally find it as I walk out of the doors. I click it on and begin checking my messages. It's only 4 o'clock so I was only asleep for about two hours.
Just as I'm about to call my mom I bump into someone.
"Oh sorry!" I exclaim while looking up.
My heart flys out of my chest and I feel the color draining from my face, along with all the blood from my body.
A wicked smile comes across his face when he finally meets my eyes. I want to run but I'm frozen in my place. I can't move. I need to get away from him or things will not end well.
"Well, well, well, if it isn't Delilah Mason" josh speaks lowly.
Why me? Why do I have to run into abusive ex boyfriends?!
I moved states and schools and changed my number and everything! how did he find me?
"I...we...retraining order" is all I can manage.
"Expired two days ago" he shrugs.
I want to cry or punch him, anything really. I glance at my phone to see 'one missed call: Harry'. I quickly slide my finger across the screen as josh looks to his left.
I back myself into the lobby of the hospital with him following slowly.
Harry picks up on the second ring and I being the phone to my ear. I see Josh's anger build at the fact I'm calling for help.
"Hey" her says simply.
"Please come pick me up Harry I need you to be at the hospital right now please" I beg him, praying josh does t hear me.
He's a couple feet away and I turned around by now but you never know.
"What happened?" he sounds urgent now.
"I'll explain later just please hurry."
He agrees and I hang up the phone. I turn back to josh only to see a devilish smirk on his face. I hate him.
"Need to call for a little back up I see?" he mocks me.
I don't reply, trying to not cause a scene I front of the few people that're here.
We both stay silent but I can see the wheels turning in his head, like he's plotting something.
I see Harry's car pull up outside and Harry jumps out and jogs through the front doors. A wave of relief rushes over me at the sight of him.
He walks to my side and protectivly entwines our hands. I squeeze his hand for dear life, trying to stop mine from shaking anymore.
He gestures to the front door and leads me out safely.
Josh tell as from behind us "This isn't over you know?"
A chill runs up my spine at the thought of ever seeing him again.
We get into the car and drive away slowly from the parking lot.
Thank god.
