~Miles~
"We have to, Adalia!" Miles exclaimed, shoving Will's note towards her. She rolled her eyes and continued fanning herself.
"How many others have actually found the city? How many? None. It's all just a scam. False hope," she took the crumpled piece of paper and read through it again, "Miles, I just don't want you to get hurt. this sounds dangerous."
"Adalia, this could save us, besides, what else would we do? Help town plant crops, only to watch them wither to nothing? We watch groups of people embark this journey, we help them with the false hope that they'll come back for us. We could change everything! If we find the city, we can help town get there too" Miles conjured up the best puppy-dog face he had.
"First of all, Miles, I'm not mom, I don't accept puppy-dog faces. Second, They don't make it to the city, because there is no city. I don't want us to risk our life for something that doesn't even exist. Besides, Will will give it up eventually, like everything else" Adalia ran her hand through her brown curls, before tying it up in a messy knot.
"No one says you have to go" Miles grumbled under his breath, she crossed her arms over her chest.
"Miles! You're sixteen, do you honestly think I'd allow you to go on a journey with William. You're still a kid. Besides, you have friends here, do you really want to leave them?"
"I am not! You're always treating me like a child, but I'm not! You're only four years older than me. Besides, Will's a responsible adult. I don't have any friends here" Miles chuckled, "None, you just don't want to leave your fiance!"
"He's thirty two and still acts like a reckless teenager, he should be out looking for water and gathering food, instead he picks up gullible kids like you and uses them as toe floss," she sighed, "Not literally. I know what you're thinking."
"Your fiance? Yeah! He does!"
"Will."
"Adalia, this is our only chance!"
"No it's not! This will all blow over!"
"No it won't, Adalia! it's been five years! Five years in this drought! Mom and Dad said that it would blow over. Where are they now? Huh? Where!? They're dead! If we don't try and find the city, if we make the same dumb mistake they did, we will die in this house, we'll die of heat stroke just like they did.
Adalia grabbed his shirt, causing him to cringe, "No. They did not make a dumb mistake, they did what was best for us. They died because they wanted to save us. They loved us, Miles."
"Oh sorry, now you're the one who's mistaken. They loved you. Not me."
"How dare you!? Mom and Dad loved you, Miles, they loved us equally."
He let out an airy laugh, "Of course you'd believe that." He raised his hands over his head and slipped out of his ratted blue t-shirt and stormed towards the door, leaving Adalia gapping while holding his t-shirt. "I'm going with him tomorrow and there isn't anything you ca do to stop me." With that, he ran out he front door, ignoring his sisters shouts.
~Macy~
She was carrying a large basket of laundry when a tall boy slammed into her. They both hit the ground and the laundry fell on the ground. The boy pulled the basket off his head, blushing a deep shade of red.
"Uh, sorry . . . I wasn't paying attention" he started picking up the clothes and putting them back into the basket.
"It's okay," she blew her bangs out of her eyes and helped him put the laundry back. He was tall and tan, he wasn't wearing a shirt and his dark brown hair was tousled. His dark hair matched his eyes. "Macy, by the way."
