A jolt awoke me from my sleep in the cab. A quick glance around informed me we were crossing the Vauxhall Bridge. I looked over the Thames River at the lovely city of London. I spotted the London Eye, towering in all its majesty. I had seven seconds to take in the beauty of my homeland before we had crossed the bridge and turned into the location of the Secret Intelligence Service, or also known as MI6.
The SIS building was massive. It had tall fences on top of cement walls with security cameras and blue tinted windows plastered on the front of the building. The roofs were mostly flat, aside from the two poles covered with satellite dishes. It was loud because of the cabs and double decker buses making their way around London. The SIS building was in the middle of all the action, which surprised me. I had been past the building many times but had never thought of what adventure awaited inside.
The air smelled of the rain from the storm the night before. The walkway was slick and wet. Across the street old train tracks ran through the city delivering people and goods around London. Suddenly, the ground begin to shake and the air filled with the stench of smoke, coal, and oil. I turned to see a black train speed by. The sound of the engine's toot encouraged me to step forward and stare into a retinal scanner to the right of the giant gates. All of a sudden a voice came out of nowhere, "Welcome to MI6 agent Johnson. Please enter." Enter? Enter where? I thought. Almost instantly the big steel gate opened just enough for me to walk through. I stepped in and looked back. With an iron slam of the gates, the world-known to me disappeared in a clatter, and my past dreams were gone with the click of the locks.
I turned back toward the cement building that held my destiny. Inside, I looked up at the high ceiling above me. A telly to the left of me talked about a strong and handsome man doing something, but I was distracted and watching the news was far from my mind at the moment. The entry hall had few decorations, all mostly old and dated for the building. As I walked in two men surged toward me but were ushered away by a tall gentleman in a black suit.
"Welcome." The man had a small lump near his rib on both sides. Armed. "My name is Dan. I apologize for those two. I told them you were instructed to bypass security, but you know newbies, always have to tell them more than once." He chuckled, I just blinked. He gave me a strange look, and then cleared his throat.
"Follow me." He turned stiffly and then began walking off. I followed the man in the suit down a long hallway. Rooms filled with desks, swivel chairs, and file cabinets branched off from the main corridor. "Just this way, Johnson," said the man. It felt weird being addressed by my surname. He showed me into a dimly lit room with a low ceiling. Several soft chairs dwelt among a long business table. I could tell many valuable meetings had occurred in this joint. This was exactly where many mysteries had been uncovered. The room had an air of accomplishment and valor to it.
"Wait here." Dan promptly left the room. I sat down and then decided against it and stood back up. Instead I looked around and took everything in.
"Sit down. My name is Captain J. Mordred, but you can call me 'sir'." I plopped into my seat and looked up at Mordred, a broad shouldered man with a dark beard. I stood up and extended my hand, I was ready.
"What are you waiting for E, ya scared or something?" Fynn taunted.
"Of what, you?" I called back, squinting my eyes. Fynn's muscular back tightened as he prepared for the fight. I rolled my shoulders and my neck and gave him a sneer.
"Would you two stop flirting and fight already?" Tex called into the ring.
"Oh, like you're one to speak." Fynn called back. I sent a kick at Fynn while he was distracted. He groaned and bent over giving me the opportunity to grab his neck in a lock and pull him downward. He grabbed me by the thigh and threw me down on my back. I groaned in a rage and kneed him in the chest when he leaned over me. I got up and threw myself on top of him, pinning him to the ground.
