It’s weird how most of us girls think alike: we expect someone we’re quite used to having around be back in the morning.
I woke up the next morning with dried drool on the side of my face and pieces of hair stuck to the gooey layer. It was gross, definitely pure disgusting. Then I called out, “Cameron?” But nobody answered.
Figures.
I decided to get ready for the wedding reception today. It was supposed to happen in half an hour or so, and I was still sitting in bed like the true lazy person I was.
When I got up from the covers, I could feel goosebumps creeping up my feet from the wood floor and my arms because I had been wearing a short sleeved tee. I stood on the tips of my toes and scurried into the bathroom where I could stand on top of the heater vent thing that always warmed me up.
After my shower, I picked out a blue cardigan but then realized I couldn’t wear jeans today, so I put it back. Ugh, the need to wear something decent to these things. But eventually, after going through fifty million pairs of pants, shirts, and even underwear, I was dressed in a white top tucked into a maroon-ish skirt, and then a jean jacket over top.
Pretty good, if I must say so myself.
Cameron still wasn’t back from his ‘ladies’ night’ after I’d gotten dressed and ready. If he had, he’d have had to have snuck in, grabbed his clothes, and then snuck out again. Which didn’t seem much like Cameron, so I’d doubted it.
I was going down the hallway to the ballroom of the hotel, when a figure stood at the doorway. I’d thought it was some random creeper dude, but when I got closer I could see his face.
“Brendan!” I laughed. “It’s you.”
“Yes ma’am,” He grinned along with me. “Would you like to walk with your fancy friend Brendan down to the reception room?”
“Oh, so now we’re friends?” I asked Brendan jokingly as we headed the direction of the ballroom.
He laughed. “Of course, weren’t we always?”
Brendan was definitely cute for guys that someone like I’d talked to. He was chuckling and saying something about our friendship.
Suddenly he stopped and his smile grew further. I’d been too caught up staring at him to notice there was somebody in front of me. I looked up, frightened.
It was just Cameron. I raised an eyebrow as I studied him. “So, where’ve you been all night, huh?”
Now it was his turn to smirk. “Why do you want to know, Kitten? Where you – oh I know – worried about me, or better yet – do you like me?”
That I had to laugh at. “Ew, hell no, Cameron. Just get out of my way, okay? We’re leaving now.”
“Okay.”
Brendan was curious, I could tell, but I was also thankful he didn’t blurt anything out. The rest of our walk to the ballroom was filled with moments of large silence.
When we got there, everybody was already moving their bodies and dancing to the beats that were playing in the background.
Most reception parties weren’t supposed to be like this. But Amanda’s would be. She was a fun-loving person, after all.
Mom once told me that if I ever met a guy as wacko as Amanda I’d have to report right away to her and we’d have to discuss how we could get them together. But that wouldn’t happen now since she had Ian.
It was kind of funny but lonely to think of Mom at this moment. I’d missed her so much it wasn’t even okay anymore.
“Janie?” Someone asked.
“Yes?” I replied.
“Look, I know this is weird but you seem like you need something off your mind. Do you want to dance with me?”
Brendan.
Did I want to dance with him?
