Having my time wide open with Jay was great, more than I could imagine. I no longer worked at the college and they were sure that by fall, I might be able to have a chance to come back if Johnston decided to retire. I just wasn't sure if I wanted to take it. With a baby on the way, I wanted to be home with Jay to help her. I wanted to make sure she had her dream come true and with the purchase of the neighboring farm, it would. Crawford was a hard man, but when I offered more than what he wanted, the green eyes had come out and taken it. There was no way that I wanted her and her father to lose the chance on the place, not with all the bids that were in already.
For once, Nikolay was home and settled in with his broken leg. His season was shot to hell, but at least he was in good spirits about it. When Jay was over, she waited on him hand and foot making him gush over her even more. It annoyed me a little that he was just playing her, but she was the one that he actually liked.
With her being with her sister for the Saturday night, she urged me to go out with Tommy seeing as I hardly been around lately. And we ended up at our favorite place, as usual, the club. I could use a drink, but then again, I wanted to get home and sit around with Jay. I had a while until I had to go and get that horse, but after the heat had cooled at her parents, I was going to have a talk with her dad. I wanted him to see that I would be there every step of the way with his daughter and I was going to take great care of her.
With the ring in my pocket, I had done my best not to just blurt everything out and propose now, but I had to get her father's blessing first. No matter what. I wanted to do everything right by her. Everything.
"So, a dad, huh?" Tommy clapped me on the back with his eyes catching a short skirt walking past. "No more fun for you."
"Oh, I have my fun and plenty of it." Nodding, I picked up my drink taking in the scent of the alcohol. I really didn't want it seeing as my love was at home with her sister, but why not? One to celebrate wouldn't hurt. I could hold back the strong urge to gulp down a bottle. With Jay by my side, I knew I didn't need it to get through the hard days.
"When do I get to meet this girl?"
"Never."
His eyes opened wide as he pressed his hand to his chest acting like I had hurt him. "I am your best friend."
"Not any more. She is."
"Dude!" Shaking his head, he winked at a blonde wearing tight leather pants and a low cut top. "That's so... crappy of you."
"She's amazing." Looking into the liquid, I felt my heart jump hard just thinking about her. There she was, hurting over the fight with her parents and I was having a drink. I should he with her right now. The phone vibrated in my pocket causing the warmth to spread through me.
Jay: I am going out to my parents. They wanted to talk. Have fun tonight.
Me: I am not. Not without you here. No fun. Be careful driving and take your time.
"Oh, man. She is hot as hell." Tommy's jaw dropped as he winced. "So, tell me how amazing this one is."
"You should see what she does with horses. She is just... She is more than I could ever imagine." Checking my phone, I smiled just thinking that in a few more months, I would see that belly of hers where our baby was growing. The baby that we created. The life that we attributed to.
"That's good, bro. You need someone that thinks of you for a change. Susie wasn't ever good for you. You know why Susie got rid of the baby, don't you?"
